Save Games

I don't know if anyone has done/tried/experienced this, but when i want to re-format my hard-drive (as it very regularly and easily filles up with s**t), i wish to back up my most important files so as not to lose them (Morrowind being Top Priority, of course). So, i cut/copy the Save Game file onto a memory stick, to load back onto the computer in order to take off where i left the game. I reformat my computer, reinstall morrowind, put the game back on, and find that i have lost some of my progress/gone back in time (call it what you will, it is all the same to me)!!!!!!!!!!!! i find that:

1)conversations with NPC's have not taken place (where im sure ive had them!)

2)rumours have only just reached me (the journal only just updates there im certain ive already written em)

3)quests i thought i have completed become only half done (journal entries and all)

4)some items (probably frome the newly unfinished quests, but some others too) have dissapered!

5)spells i once knew (and spent a pretty penny learning, too!!), are expunged from my memory, and are back on the lists of the many people who can teack me them (for that same pretty penny)!!

?)i am unsure about my money, as it always varies and i do not keep track of it

 

has anyone else experienced this?

is there a pattern to this?

is it deliberate?

is there some way to disable it?

is it a bug??

i have tried a sneaky way around this but it doesnt seem to work:

All saved games go to the "saves" folder in the program files to the game, right? (<---not a question). I think "hmm, wonder if i could trick mw?" so i replace the "saves" folder with a shortcut called "saves" to where my saved games actually are! but nothing... mw is too good a game to be tricked by my minute intellegence - i come to realise now that as i write this, a shortcut is actually totally different to a Folder, so mw wouldn't register it.... ah well

i kno im stubborn about this but how can time reverse? i look at the size on my save file, and its all still there! this is not fair!!! i want my game back!!

It's probably a bug. I've copy/pasted save games to another Morrowind installation, and haven't had that problem. Do you have the latest patch? Are you sure you copied the right save file, not an older one?

i havent actually tried copying then pasting back with any patches and/or expansions installed. just the original game. i have in the past tried cutting then pasting my game again(streight after i found that this bug happened) to double check. it seemes either i have to have moved on in the game a while, or i just dont notice the changes when that happens.

 

i will give it a go though with everything installed (as i am now only goint to be able to play the game with everything installed now - not just morrowind)
