The vote rate has always been quite low to download rate. Keep in mind that download numbers can be bloated where vote numbers are absolute. Some people try to download a file over-and-over and it fails during the download for whatever reason and they start it again but the site still registers a download request. Denial of Service attacks also try to take the site down by downloading large files over and over again (which is why we have the 50 downloads max per file in place). I am sure there are other examples but I think you get the point.

No matter how you shake a stick at it, it is not easy to get a precise number and each mod plays differently into the equation.

Here are some stats for some various files, popular or not.

Midas Magic Spells of Aurum (latest BETA): 39,492 downloads, 1,898 votes = 4.8% vote rate

- Total downloads = 462,980, 1,898 votes = 0.4 % vote rate.

- NOTE: Those votes are not all for that one file...there have been many files uploaded...who knows how many votes were just for that file alone...you'd have to check the upload date and go through the comment log to count all votes since that date to be 100% accurate for just that file.

- CATEGORY: Popular mod

Unnecessary Violence (latest beta): 19,548 downloads, 387 votes = 19.8 % vote rate

- Total Downloads = 46,655, 387 votes = 0.8 % vote rate

- NOTE: Those votes are not all for that one file...there have been many files uploaded...who knows how many votes were just for that file alone...you'd have to check the upload date and go through the comment log to count all votes since that date to be 100% accurate for just that file.

- CATEGORY: Popular mod

Lost Paladins of the Divines (OMOD-Ready): 98,859 downloads, 475 votes = 0.5 % vote rate

Lost Paladins of the Divines (OMOD): 19,642 downloads, 475 votes = 2.4 % vote rate

- NOTE: There has only been one version of this mod so all the votes are related to just this mod version. It also seemed that over time that if people downloaded the OMOD-Ready, they also download the OMOD so the 0.5% is probably the most accurate for this mod.

- CATEGORY: Popular mod

Lamps of Oblivion: 4,409 downloads, 34 votes = 0.8 % vote rate

- NOTE: There has only been one version of this mod so all votes relate to this one file.

- CATEGORY: Niche mod

Buddah Statues: 463 downloads, 13 votes = 2.8 % vote rate

- NOTE: There has only been one version of this mod so all votes relate to this one file.

- CATEGORY: Specialty mod

Stick Figure Swords: 617 downloads, 25 votes = 4.1 % vote rate

- NOTE: There has only been one version of this mod so all votes relate to this one file.

- CATEGORY: Humor mod

Bobos Summoned Chest: 3,825 downloads, 27 votes = 0.7 % vote rate

- CATEGORY: Utility mod

And your example of 50 votes and 5,000 downloads which is a 1.0 % vote rate seems to fit what has generally occurred on this site since the beginning.

Having one person vote out of a hundred is par for a well-received mod, 2 votes per hundred is quite well. 3 votes in a hundred is phenomenal!

With all that said and done, I will say that with the vote system now converted to an endorsement system, I would also like to see more people give their support by way of clicking the endorsement link if you liked the mod...even if somewhat flawed by an imperfect modder. ;)
