jjb54
I have now played all the DLC's ... ya it took me 'awhile' .... Old World Blues was by far the better of all the DLC's. I actually wish they would have put this in the Vanilla game, because it explains and answers a lot of what is going on in New Vegas, Rex - Mutants - Robo Brain Robots - Dead Money, Lonesome Road, Hazmat Suites in LR ... and Character Christine Royce and .. it was like they took this DLC and did their 'best' to tie it all together and had a little 'crazy fun' doing it too. The characters were all a lot of fun. I could have done without the "F Bombing" from the Toaster. Only because I'm tired of the over use/abuse of that word, pure and simple and it seriously did not add anything to the game/dialog. But, the story line (a little far fetch) removing the brain - heart - backbone, yes I'll admit that. But, hey - it's a fantasy game. As a thought, I wished Bethesda would have at least "suggested" that Old World Blues was the first one you played, without spoiling to much of the other DLC's. As I stated above, it tries to 'tie up some loose ends' and give a little more meat to what is going on in the game and the other DLC's. I found it 'strange' that you can only make 1 each of all the "HELP BOOKS" from the Recipe Holotapes. Seriously???? Why even do it at all, if you are one hand, giving you as many "blank books" as you could want .... but basically USELESS, except to sell?? I mean, you fight no small battles to get the Holotapes and you get to use the Recipe 1 time. That's it. <O> .. <o> That is about the only real annoyance I had with this DLC. Which says a lot about it. The rest of the story lines - the sandbox and such were FUN. All-in-all my rating would be: First Best: Old World BluesSecond: Dead MoneyThird: Honest HeartsFourth: Lonesome Road. ... Thanks for reading ... Jj .... Fistandilius
See I'm the exact opposite. I thought it was really lazy that they just arbitrarily decided that all these creatures were all created in one spot and left to escape. It felt like they took almost all the new meshes Obsidian had made since FO3 and just decided at the last minute to give them a backstory. Also, while OWB was funny initially, I felt like the creatures in the area were buffed for no reason and it really made it a chore to explore the area. ESPECIALLY after you've done the quest line once on one character and you already know all the punch lines. Then there's those areas like the school and the stealth area that you have to play over and over and over again to get the upgrades. Who really thought that was a good idea? Then they created their version of a stealth suit and it's totally lame. Medium armor so it totally negates my light armor perks (I actually move slower in the stealth suit?) and the voice acting on the suit is ok, but it consumes all your stimpacks and med-x. And of course no stealth field. I'm actually doing a new character right now and just started OWB yesterday and I'm trying to do the bare minimum to get it done just so I can get back and forth to the waste and finish getting the optional stuff at my own pace. There are certainly things worth getting, like the reenforced spine perk, but most of the weapons are really lame and most of the weapons I took from the Mohave have little effect on the creatures in that area. It wouldn't be as big a deal if you were allowed to leave the area, but you're pretty much stuck in Big MT 'til you finish. Also, I prefer to play these games for the story and exploration of the new world spaces, not the combat. If I wanted to play for combat, I'd play CoD or something. The Nightstalker storyline in OWB totally contradicts the Nightstalker situation in Jacobstown btw, where you find they are able to turn invisible by consuming fluid from Stealthboys that alters their DNA or some such. Also, while this isn't really OWB's fault, I'm REALLY getting tired of the whole "carry weight" thing in Bethesda games. I realize it's more realistic, but when they keep putting so much stuff in their games and then they create things like OWB or Honest Hearts that makes the useless items more useful along with the guns being worth so much in NV, I'm really tired of having to constantly adjust my inventory, or stop in the middle of a questline to go back and sell some things or drop recipe items at my player house. I'd turn it off with the console or a mod, but that feels like cheating too. Edited March 30, 2014 by Fistandilius
jjb54
Understand - this dialog/thread - is for FUN ... yes we can get 'personal opinions' - but just remember - It is just a game!! ;) (I thread just got locked (not mine) ... because people got overly 'personal' about a game.) I actually found the FLASH BANGS helped take down the Giant Scorpion -- took about 5 of them and then two Nuka-Grenades and poof - Scorpion was down for the count. :) I also enjoy FIDO - ya, I admit it ... it's kind of fun and funny ..... But of the DLC's - this and DEAD MONEY at least had a PLOT that went all the way and had options Plan A - B and even sometimes a C ... You had options. Lonesome Trail on the other hand - just annoyed me. I had more questions when it was done, then what I had going into it. It actually answered and/or resolved nothing in the game. Dead Money - had a 'reason' - a plot and 'closed' it when done. A little dry, but you could keep moving forward, knowing why .... HONEST HEARTS - ya, that had a plot and you had options and closure when done. But it was 'boring' .. lacked action to keep your attention ..... peadar1987
I actually enjoyed Honest Hearts the most, probably because it had friendly NPCs I could invest myself in, and once you finished, you felt you'd achieved something worthwhile. Plus that scenery! OWB and Dead Money were enjoyable for me, but Fistandilius hits the nail on the head for OWB. You have to carry too much stuff, the weapons are very "niche", it contradicts other areas of the game and fallout canon in a grating way sometimes, and some enemies are needlessly buffed (although that is a criticism of the newer Fallout games in general. It shouldn't take six headshots to drop pretty much anything, let alone a coyote/rattlesnake hybrid!). On the other hand, on my first playthrough, I loved the humour and sense of discovery. Dead Money was a nice change of atmosphere, with the constantly hostile environment, and needing to survive without all your gear. It also has some very interesting NPCs, some of the best in the game. However, I hate the concept of magic, make anything vending machines that work by rearranging individual atoms, and in my own headcanon, I change it to them just being attached to a central distribution network, even if just for the fact that turning a chip into a stimpak should release enough nuclear energy to level the entire Sierra Madre. Lonesome Road, I still found fun, but too linear and combat-focused for me. There's no real way through apart from just shooting everything. Plus no friendly NPCs. I think I had similar feelings about FO3 DLCs. Loved The Pitt, liked Point Lookout, Broken Steel was okay, but again, too much combat and linearity, Operation Anchorage was a fun FPS, but there are far better FPS games out there. It was interesting as a change of pace though, and to see a little of the pre-war fallout universe.

Honest Hearts was good - I think it was boring, in that maybe - (thinking (typing out loud here) - it was "slow", but then sometimes life is "slow" and you do not just go from one adventure to another .... Yes there were some good characters in HH ... the only character in LR was ED-E2. For some very strange reason, I really liked him and was sad to see him continue his journey. ED-E1 is just not even remotely the same, but at least he reminds me of ED-E2. Maybe he reminded me of R2D2 ... LOL ... in that there was a little more serious A.I. in ED-E2 that made him 'personal' .. he had 'feelings' ..
SayinNuthin
Liked and disliked different DLCs for different reasons except Old World blues that I just clicked out of half way through and have never done again, loathed it! Not lore, silly and irritating in equal measures, the comedy routine at the beginning... WTF! [facepalm] Naa. Dead Money was nice but I strongly object to not being allowed to keep my weapons, I don't 'do' energy weapons, I play firearms specialists, Cool Looking, firearms specialists... So you've dressed me as a FEMA refugee and given a ray gun? Which was a shame 'cos DM had a good story, excellent worldspace and once I [additem]ed my proper guns into it, good fun. (and the green-eyed Bioshock wanabes? This is an automatic shotgun pal, try getting up again with no knees!) Though the gameplay was 'comparatively' weak in Honest Hearts, I liked worldspace (anyone else getting roadrunner ) and the characters. I can tell when a games characters impress me when I find myself looking up who were the voice actors. And Joshua was an outstandingly well played character. Possibly my favourite in ANY fallout game. Could have listened to the man all day. Unlike Ulysses, I understand his voice was made to be grating, congratulations devs you succeeded. But as a tip if your going to make a character with a horrible voice... make him laconic. Don't make him drone on for hours! And what the ***k was he going on about anyway? The whole thing is MY fault in some way he can't make clear (despite not being able to shut up) As a linear canyon run, lonesome road is a good canyon run as you could wish for, whether you try to sneak it or blast through guns blazing. Surprised to see jjb54's comments about bad language, you talked to them? what for? just shoot the ****er! what are you going to learn from him? He lives in a savagely irradiated hell and he's mad (Lols) But Ulysses voice ground my gears so much I just shot him half way through the 'final' monolog "Will [blam!] You [blam!] Just [blam!] ****ing! [blam!] Shut [blam!] Up! [blam! Blam! Blam!] then nuked the legion. Which is why I do LR every time I fire the game up. 'Cos nuking fascists is never going to get old for me!
