SiniVII
Yeah I've noticed, Oblivion simply doesn't scare me as much as it did before. Before I could simply enter a cave, and be scared to death by a rat in the darkness. However later when I grew stronger, nothing seemed to even be able to flinch me. I grew tired of it as I owned most things, even when I put it to the most difficult level it was still too easy. SO! Here is my idea! The Ringwraiths are a popular bunch from the Lord of the Rings universe. How about they would be chasing you once you begin a small quest? Idea was: To start the quest, you talk to a random small man (Similar to a hobbit, intended...) whom if you speak to will suddenly bark in your face as he has already been corrupted by the ring, and in the end he will assault you forcing you or the guards to kill him (Depending on his location). Once he is dead, you simply want to check what he's holding, and when you click on his body you get a quest item (Automatickly and undroppable) which is none other, but "The One Ring." I had originally intended for this person to be in a hut, so that when you exit the hut you hear the nazguls scream in the distance (Like the Lycanthrope mod where you hear their howling in the distance) except that you hear it everywhere. Idea was that the Nazgul hunt the ring, and kills the one who bears it. There are a total of Nine ringwraiths, each roaming around the different areas (Anvil gold coast area, Chorrol mountain area, Kvatch area, Cheydinhal area, leyjawin area, Bravil roads, Imperial City area(Outside around the lake) bruma area. There are only eight area's in the game, that's why The Witch-King of Angmar will be the one to hunt you wherever you go, so you will always be chased by two or less ringwraiths at all times. All the ringwraiths will be insanely powerful (And hold enhanced equipment with eternal use, and paralyze resistant.) so that fighting with these, is the last thing you would want to do. The idea is the feel of being hunted, when you see a ringwraith you only want to hide and sneak away, much like the first times you ever saw a minotaur in the vanilla game. If you equip the ring, you will automatically summon the nine to your location, and that's when they will all start hunting you. Other things: - If possible they should be fairly slow, so that you can at least out run them. - They should all have black horses, or something like the imperial guard has while striding the wild.- The idea is to be HUNTED and feel FEAR again, making them insanely powerful and making them immortal only having them faint IF you manage to kill them. If I knew how to mod properly I would definitely try to make something like this on my own, but as I hardly know how to edit stuff in the TESCS, and I don't know how to create new weapons and such, or scripts or quests or anything... Putting it bluntly I am a newbie modder. So unfortunately I am lacking the knowledge of modding... FOR NOW. Now for my newbie questions! Is it possible to do something like this? Having NPC's hunt an Object you are carrying? Is it possible to make eternal enhancements on equipments? Is it possible to have NPC's chase YOU through the wild? Last question: Anybody think this idea is interesting?
paladicprince
I very much like it. I'm pretty sure it is possible. I know permanent enchants are. So I suppose you want the ring to add invisibility when worn? But the nazgul would chase you if you simply had it?It should definitely be implemented to have some detrimental effects the longer you wear the ring, one being that if worn x amount of time it can't be dropped and you will always be haunted. SiniVII
That would be awesome! Well the ring was supposed to be an undroppable quest item from the beginning, and naturally they will be LOOKING for you when you have the ring, but when you equip the ring they will be drawn to you, like in the books and movies. And I like that last suggestion of always being hunted. xD
paladicprince
So... something like this: The ring is undroppable (easy) Once you have the equips it creates the nazgul, who are of a faction that will attack the player on sight.(That part is easy) While the ring is equipped you have invisiblity, but the nazguls instantly know where you are (so you can't use the ring to hide from them) and will start coming towards you. This is the part that gets a bit more complicated... I suppose you could add a script effect to the ring that when equipped will initiate combat with the nazgul which would make them start heading to you. I've never used the startcombat script command myself, so the issue there would be does it work when the nazgul are not in the same cell as you. Hopefully some other more experienced scripter can answer that question. It also begs the question if you're inside a building will they know where you are and come to you? Hopefully that would work. If that part works it would be easy to add an OnUnequip block to stop combat with the nazgul (which should make them resume their normal patrolling AI unless they can actually see you in which case they'd stop attacking for like a sword swing but then resume again.... I think) It would also be easy to add a simple timer quest that would say that maybe if you had worn the ring for a total of more than five minutes they will be actively hunting you even if you take it off. Which would be a terrible idea because that would be at least two nazgul, but if you wore it longer you could end up with all nine tailing you. So really the entire thing is entirely doable, but it's dependant on if the startcombat works even when they're not in the same cell. If it doesn't maybe another modder can come up with a way to impliment it? Actually thinking about it, if that method doesn't work it would be possible to do a script that when a ring has been worn for more than 30 seconds at a time a nazgul teleports into your cell. Makes it really hard to avoid them at that point, especially in interiors.
SiniVII
Well the second option you mentioned with 30 seconds at a time, a nazgul teleports into your cell, could work. It would not be as thrilling and awesome though, but it's a start. And running away would be hard depending how fast the nazgul are, there could be different ESP's with different speed nazguls. (One which case you need athletics lvl - Insert LVL - to outrun). I need to start learning modding... >.<
paladicprince
:) Do what I did. Download the Construction set and start screwing with stuff till it starts making sense, The Oblicion CS Wiki is intensely usefull as well. Oh and don't try modding without OBSE it's somewhat pointless these days haha Oh and the next most important if not the most important is to download mods and dig through them until you understand inside and out how they work. When you load a mod into the construction set anything it modifies is marked with an asterick so it makes looking for them a bit easier.
Siojo
This sounds pretty awesome. Now don't mind this as I have absolutely no idea of how to script so I don't know if this is even possible, but get a Nagzul to spawn a cell away and give them a gigantic detect life enchantment while the ring is active(Then have the Nagzul howl to give the player a warning). Like I said this is coming from someone how doesn't know how to script so I can guess that wouldn't work, especially with interior cells.

TheLastIstari
You could use the One Ring from the Sauron's Armor Chest mod for the model, although you will need cultbrain's permission to do such a thing. Though considering the circumstances and the idea of it, I think he'd be pretty willing to let it go through. You can contact him at cult_b_rain(at)naver.com You can get the Ringwraith Robes Here. You can use it in mods, all The Bloke (Author name) asks is that you clearly credit him as the creator of the robes. You can get the Witch King's Helm Here. However, the creator expresses that you ask his permission though before doing anything. You can contact him at the_devils_avarcardo(at)gmail.com You can get the Witch King's Sword Here. The creator would like you to contact him first before you do anything, though if you are unable to, to at the very least, clearly credit him. If you wish to find him, you can find him as Grimdeath at http://morrowind.com You can get the Nazgul Sword Here. Though the creator expresses that you should get his permission first before doing anything. You can find him on http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/ as waffen-79 and the mod's thread on that site is Here. As for the actual hunting, I believe that's more an AI package than it is a script, I believe it's used for Audens Avidius as well, so look him up in the CS to help you along. As for it beginning when you gain the Ring, along with the Nazgul screech as a warning, those will indeed require scripts to my knowledge, which at the moment I am unable to help script wise. paladicprince
I feel confident that I could help with scripting in this if needed, I could probably also help with the AI even though my experience thus far is minimal. Those are more than excellent references. And suggestions. Should get the OP headed in the right direction. I'll follow this. After a couple weeks if it just falls off the radar I may pick it back up, who knows.
