Oblivion Staffs

I think that staffs should have a different effect when you're enchanting it because their the wizard/mage tradmark! They should make staffs able to cast several different spells instead of just one.

I also thought that they should make a staff that you can cast youre own spells into and then discharge them through it instantanouesly. And that their would be different levels that effected how spells you could cast into it.

What are some of your ideas for a dream staff or other enchanted item?

Staff and staffs is correct too.

They are always pre-enchanted? Why? That would be disappointing.

I want to make a staff that would cast on strike paralyze. I want to hit someone at the top of a staircase and watch them tumble end-over-end down to the bottom. I want to use it on someone at the top of a hill. I'll knock their stiff body down the slope until they roll down like a log.

They are all pre-enchanted. That's what staffs/staves are now. You can no longer melee with them, they just fire an energy projectile at enemies when used. I'm pretty sure it's been stated that you can't enchant them.

Maybe they have constant magicka so the spell never runs out? That's pure speculation on my part and is probably ruled out in a dev's comment that a helpfiul soul will no doubt quote after this post. But it sounds logical (to me anyway ;) )

They haven't actually said. They only say that it's "enchanted". They don't say whether using the things actually depletes charges or if they have infinite charges. As they are the main melee weapon for pure mages, I would think they would be inexhaustable, but quite a bit less powerful than actually casting spells. This is just speculation of course. :P

Hurray for logical speculation! :D

Considering that, traditonally speaking, the staff has always been the focus of a wizard/magician/sourcerer/whatever I'm surprised they haven't given them more breadth of ability. From a gaming poitn of view it is obvious why you couldn't have a staff that could use several different spells inexhaustibly, but what about using a staff to reinforce the power of another spell?

or example, you have a staff that shoots fireballs (for arguments sake). Whilst holding yon staff, you cast a fireball spell. This spell is combined with the power from the staff to fire a gurt great big fireball. This would add a fantastic extra layer to playing a mage, as the choice of staff would be an important decision effecting the way you played. Just a thought, and yet another amazing idea for the Bethsoft spies to take note of, courtesy of loveme4whoiam.inc :D

yeah! imagine getting a paralyze spell, with a fire staff, and watching them burn whilst they can't move.

does anyone know if you can set trees/ clothing/ people on fire, so that they run around like headless chickens, setting fire to other stuff?

The released video contained a burning, running dog but I don't know if they're able to light up other things... They've said that they're making the effects much more realistic so perhaps.
