I've always been a gamer, and as such have played alot of old games, and i was wondering...does anyone else miss the boss fights?

Some games now dont even have any boss fights, although they're not rare, there are certainly less than before, But what really gets me is, that they just aren't that great anymore, its just a long prolonged battle, whereas plenty of games ive played you'd spend alot of time trying to think up a strategy or finding that hidden way of defeating the boss, Anyone agree?

I love old games. I still play old NES sometimes.

Quick, which is better Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse or Castlevania Symphony of the Night?

One is really hard with different paths through the game, and different characters, and one is really big, but easy, and has really good music and a really stylish hero.

Both are old games now, but they are two different generations of games.

And the answer is Castlevania 3.

Yes, miss the good old times throwing my controller around the room, shouting at the TV, making bomb threats over the "help" line out of frustration over a boss that cheats to all hell. Ok... Only 2 of those have happened. More recently, the only games which I recall having bosses where you don't just spam and pwn are some bosses in Zelda games. Then again, with Zelda games, it's pretty much standard fair that the weapon/tool you get in that dungeon will be the secret to killing the boss, so even then, there isn't much.

While I'm sure there is some laziness on the part of the programmers, I'm tempted to think that there is something more practical behind this. I would imagine that difficult to play games with hard bosses don't sell as well as bosses which are fairly easy and don't require any sort of real strategy for. I would also imagine that with the internet being so common, companies are trying to reduce the number of complaints they get from frustrated customers. Finally, I could see the ease and availability of cheat and hint sites, magazines, and such to just be demoralizing for game designers who wanted their bosses to have tricks that required more than 5 seconds with google to figure out; afterall, those designers went through alot of work putting in that trick.

I can't say I miss'em, but I must admit it was a real pleasure after you found the weak spot of your enemy. First there was anger and frustration, but once the job was done you felt so good. That feeling I do miss. However, playing mostly TES games recently with mods I found that feeling again so all is great like in the old days. Beeing chased by a party of skeletons champions at level 1-10 is also great, but when you come back at level 15 with new gear and better skills and you wipe'em all out, you feel godlike.

Cheers,

Pushkatu!

I don't really miss them, but the boss fights were much better before than now. I remember how I played American McGee's Alice, the boss fights there were ah-mazing (Paris Hilton rip-off).

I remember how I was always trying to kill all the bosses in every game, and just as Vagrant when I lost, I shouted "YOU B******!!!!!! YOU CHEATED ARRRGH!" xD
