Dezdimona, Madeintheshade, I wish to thank you for your recommendations. I will treasure them and they have helped me to make a judgement. I now believe that it is time to close this topic down. Thank you once again for your help.

We are preparing to replace our aging computers with Windows 7 machines when the new operating system becomes available. I am a loyal fan of nVidia, but I understand that there are some difficulties when running TES Oblivion with an nVidia card. Therefore I would appreciate some input as to which card I should choose for my new machine.

The choices are:

1GB ATI Radeon HD 4650 [DVI, HDMI, VGA]

1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 [DVI, HDMI, VGA]

1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]

1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]

Mine will also be running Fallout 3 as well as Fallout New Vegas when it becomes available.

Any suggestions will be gladly accepted and be most appreciated. Thank you.

The Radeon 4800 series is great. I use a 4830 to run Oblivion maxed out at 1280x1024(limited by older monitor), with HDR and 8xAA(forced via Catalyst Control Center). It runs very smooth. I also played through Batman: Arkham Asylum on max settings without a single hiccup.

Also, a 4850 has a higher stock clock speed and 160 more stream processing units than my card(800 vs 640).
