SkunkMonkey
I've been having an issue with my landscape remaining unaffected by fog while objects are being grayed over. It's driving me nuts and really killing my desire to play the game. I've just reinstalled and started adding mods back in when I noticed this problem show up. I've not added any weather mods or Streamline which I suspected may have been the culprit before the reinstall. Does anyone have an idea what settings I've got messed up that are causing this? I even picked up a new video card today (from GeForce 6800 to GeForce 9500) and was hoping to play with my graphics settings maxed out. What a birthday disappointment! archer9
My suggestion to you is to disable all mods and see if the problem persists. If not, then you can start enabling some mods that you feel safe about and in such way, eventually find the mod which is causing the problem. SkunkMonkey
I've tried that, starting from a fresh installation and don't think it's being caused by a mod. I'm beginning to suspect a tweak I have made in oblivion.ini though I've even gone back to the default version of that as well. None of the mods I listed should be playing with fog settings that I know of. I have noticed that it only occurs when the weather gets foggy or it's raining. Originally, I could play with Streamline's Streamsight feature and adjust the fog start min/max values and it would reset temporarily. This latest install I haven't even installed Streamline but the problem still occurs and I can't even use it for the temp fix. For now, when it happens I am just using the console to set the weather to Clear.
archer9
Hmm.. have you considered to try any texture mods? Try VibrantDistantLOD and Vanilla Textures Enhancements, by Corepc. It affects weather too as far as I know. I am using it and it's awesome. It might solve your problem.
SkunkMonkey
I've got Really AEVWD installed, but it hasn't had any effect on the issue. Now that I have a better video card with 1GB VRAM, I'm going to start looking at texture upgrades. I was just hoping to track this problem down first. Purplelizard
Speaking of foggy weather stuff. How do I get rid of it? It drives me bonkers.Even the fog on the coast of California where I grew up wasn't as bad as Tameril seems to have.
SkunkMonkey
Archer9 PM'd me the solution but I figured I would post here in the event someone else has this problem in the future: I just figured out what was causing your fog problem. It's the setting in the oblivion.ini file: bDoSpecularPass. If it is set to 0, then it is 100% causing it. I guess you have already resolved your problem, but just in case. :) 1000 Kudos for you! That did the trick! I changed that setting at one time when trying to get rid of the blur that was happening at the edges of the screen (my eyes are bad enough, don't need the game adding to it!). It's so nice to see the land match the rocks, trees and buildings again! Weeeeeeeeee Cheers!Skunky
