havoc92
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110611_1.jpghttp://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110611_2.jpg Here we go. This is a preview of the first finished tile I'll be using to build the signs with in order to create my textures. The font was derived from a cylinder of .063 radius (appr. 1/16th inch) then scaled on y to give a .032 depth (appr. 1/32). The outer black layer is .032 thick for a total intrusion of .064 into the sign base. The base thickness will be 1/8". And the tiles are designed to give 1/8" seperation between characters with amargin of .25" above and beneath. Average outer margins from the top and bottom edgesof the characters is 3/4" with 1/2" inch average spacing between lines. So, it's pretty simpleto reconstruct these. Character height is 1" on small standard signs. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110611_3.jpg ..And this was requested at the main thread on 3dBuzz; so, throwin it in for the heck of it. Druuler
I still can't get over the realism of your work with this! It is absolutely astounding! (I think I am repeating myself, but oh well) Your attention to detail speaks volumes for your love of, and dedication to this project. It would be awe inspiring to be able to explore the finished work even in its original format, and not converted for game use
havoc92
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110711_1.jpg Ok, that is the finished tile set.. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110711_2.jpg ..and this is the first actual sign. Druuler
And here I will repeat myself by saying nice job! It does look like an image of an actual, physical plaque. And as simple an object as it seems, it sure wasn't a simple process to create from scratch.
havoc92
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110811_1.jpg Ok, so after pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong much of the day.... Here is a sampler of signage. The sign on top is an assemblage of the tileset I workedup over the last several days. The two beneath it are low poly boxes with texture.First one is a dxt5 based dds with bump at 2048x2048. The second is a TGA file with bump at 1024 x 1024. Now, I did a TGA at 2048 and there is little difference between the high res texture and the low res - so little it isn't worth showing IMHO; but, I have it if anyone is interested in seeing it. The color differential is not in the format, it is simply rendered under a pale blue omni.. which I haven't decided if I like at the moment; but, ..Will probably redo the texture in white and go on; but, overall happy with the dxt5 texture. Druuler
Even though I would prefer to have the black area of the sign be black, your dxt5 version seems to have more depth to it, and is easier to read. The way things turned out on the TGA versions, the lettering is not as bright, causing a lose of detail and, to me at least, making the letters a bit blurry. Again, that could just be my eyes. There was a serious loss of both clarity and crispness in the fonts with TGA. I think I may have pumped the bump mapping up a tad much though as the grain in the image reads pretty coursely. May have to knock the slider down to about 80 or so. ;) Workin on assembling the last couple of primary signs for deck 2 right now.Kinda realized along the way that it might be a wise idea to make ye olde bathroom signs as well lol. Druuler
Lol! Yes, it might be helpful for people to know where to find the closest head (to use the naval term).
havoc92
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/havoc211/progress_110911_1.jpg This isn't texture, though I've captured the images now necessary to create this full batch and began working them in photoshop. Incredibly happy with the crispness of the new batch. Got rid of the blueomni as well. These are the signs necessary to Deck 2. There may be one or two more when I decidewhether to post caution signs for the gangways or not.. we'll see. Druuler
I have to say (and may have already done so) that your attention to detail in this is wonderful. To be honest, I might never have thought of putting signs in any Star Trek based mod I might have done (or might do...). It just isn't something I tend to see in the mods I use, so it has never crossed my mind. Now I will most likely constantly complaining to myself that there are not enough signs any were in Fallout  As incredible as it would be to have this ported into one of the Gambryo-based games, I will be quite happy to tour the completed project in the original format (I am repeating myself, I am sure...).
