Tabris172015
Hey guys, I held out on Fallout for a long time for the GOTY edition to save on some cash and just have a question I've been kicking around with some of my friends that have played it before and can't seem to get a straight answer too.I started playing the game and after about 30 hours or so after talking with a friend of mine I threw in disc 2 to install the DLC content. I noticed a 'Download' icon appeared on the main screen but was locked out. I figure it just means I have to complete the full original game before the DLC becomes unlocked. Some of my friends were under the impression the DLC would become available right away and then my level cap should go up to 30 for the main game because of Broken Steel. I'm still under the impression I need to beat the game to access the DLC and start playing Broken Steel to increase my level cap.So basically, what's the situation? More of a curiosity thing as I would very much like to keep playing without having to restart my game of course. Though I suppose worst case scenario would just be starting a new game after I beat it.
gsmanners
Just quit the game and run the installer on disc 2 from desktop. That will copy all the files you need for the DLCs. Just be ready (and willing) to kill xlive with FOMM when the time comes.
TentenUK
Yea as said above, install the DLC from disc, you do not have to complete the game first, you will get messages spammed across your screen for each DLC (just like Oblivion) including the one telling you the level cap has been raised to 30, all that can happen from level one with out having completed the game prior to the install. Tabris172015
Hmm, that's odd then because I did install from the desktop with disc 2 and didn't get the messages. Oh well, not a big thing. Nevermind, I figured it out. I had to click on 'data files' when the launch window popped up and click on all the DLC boxes to check them. Once I did that I got all the messages. I just assumed it would be an automatic thing. It's all good now.
TentenUK
Ah sorry my fault for being so presumptuous, not everybody has been modding since Morrowind .Glad you managed to figure out though.
Tabris172015
Yeah, I don't really mod honestly. Maybe after I beat the game once or twice but I don't want to really risk messing with the files just yet and risk loosing 40+ hours of work. csb
There are some great mods that disable the annoying in-game messages about the DLCs.
