Georgiegril
I do see the problem. I am wondering if it may be caused by factors outside of the game. For example, I get that if I forget to turn off background automatic backups. (to my external drive.)How do you turn those off in your computer--auto virus scans/definition updates, Windows updates, Background scans or updates of any kind, which might include email, IM, etc?Are you playing with Steam in offline mode? With all other programs (such as browsers and whatnot) turned off? Also, I would check to make sure Nvidia Inspector has you set in single-display performance mode, not multi-display,
velve666
Yeah my mate was having huge problems with lag/stutter too so I told him to check his task manager/show processes from all users, turns out he was running 100+ tasks. After ending the non-essential processes, his updaters/virus the problems were almost gone. Although I say this I'm not even sure if that would be considered normal, I only have 39 running skyrim included. I'm wary to close any more though. It's worth a shot. It helped at least one person out.
bben46
There are 3 kind of things to look at in Task manager1. Applications - these are the actual programs that are running right now. The fewer the better. In my opinion, 3 is too many. When running a game - you should see the game, and possibly the place it was launched from ( steam or other) Even having an open browser can possibly slow things down. Some messenger programs want to go online to check for messages every few seconds, some AV programs want to check every disk read and every disk write (Not needed) or run a scheduled scan (Make sure you don't have a scan running) Some 3rd party defrag programs will auto defrag if the frag level goes above a certain threshold. And of course a bitcoin miner running in the background will absolutely kill any performance. 2. Processes - these can be more difficult as many processes are absolutely required to run the computer. And many that are loaded don't really have any affect as they are waiting for a specific condition to do anything ( look at CPU%) But many of these can be shut down to play the game without any problems. Luckily, Windows shows the CPU percent for each one. If you have something that is using more than a few % that is not either the game or 'System Idle Process' you need to find out what it is before shutting it down. 3. Services - usually not a problem - but there is a column that tells you if the service is actually running or stopped. And services can be set to Automatic, always start when the computer starts, Disabled ( not start at all) or manual start only when they are first called. Look at the bottom of the services page for a button labeled "Services' It will open another list that allows you to click on a service to see what it is and if it might be stopped or not. And there is a setting for Automatic - meaning that it will always start when the computer starts - or manual, meaning it will not automatically start, but wait until it is first called to start. I use a bluetooth device occasionally - I have that service set to manual as It doesn't need to be running unless I actually want to use it - then when I do - it may take an extra half second to start the service before it will work. But then it will stay running until I reboot or shut the computer down.
garmadon98
Thanks for all the replies. I have no bitcoin miner running in the background and no big services/processes/applications. I think it is a problem with Vsync. Yesterday I set iPresentInterval=0 and forced Vsync on in Nvidia Inspector (Setting Force On), but the framerate was still over 60fps. So I think that Vsync is not working Edited May 2, 2014 by garmadon98
