draguul
So i installed fo3 and all the dlc's, and ONE mod, then start a new game. before i can even get out of the birthday party the game crashes to blue screen of death....wierd...so i restart, and it crashes again to blue screen. i do it five or six more times and i now cannot even boot windows, it gets to the windows logo and bam blue screen. wtf. all i can do is boot into safe mode. ive looked all over but have not found anything to explain this. if it is xlive.dll or whatever if i fix it in safe mode will i be able to boot???? BigBodZod
I'm thinking this is just coincidental, but I have seen strange things happen with Windows before after a game/app gets installed. Are you having other issues with any other game at the moment or just using Windows in general ??? Here is what I would try out first just to rule out some possible hardware issues. There is a freeware app called Memtest86+, just Google it, that you can download and burn to a CD, it's an ISO image and will boot off of that optical disc if you have the optical drive set to boot before the HDD. After burning to a disc then restarting Windows with this disc in the drive then let the Memtest app go through a few loops, I like 3~5 loops just to make sure and pay attention to any errors being logged, even one error can cause problems, not just with the game but with the OS as well, hence why I think you know have a corrupted system file or two which is causing the BSOD. Another disc I use to test other hardware components is the Ultimate Boot CD which also includes an earlier version of Memtest and a ton of diagnostic tools for HDD's, CPU's, Chipsets, etc.... It is possible that you have some kind of compatibility issue with Fallout 3 on your machine configuration.
draguul
okay. so i booted into safe mode and uninstalled gfwl, my display drivers, fallout3, and the dlcs. i was then able to boot into windows normally, where i reinstalled fresh drivers, then gfwl, then fallout. so far everything looks fine...played to the end of 101. so what im thinking is its the dlcs. im gonna try to install them again. PLUS i realized i installed a mod without archival validation or whatever. so i did that. so i think everything is okay... i was just VERY taken back by the fact that i couldnt even boot. very strange. 3.0 dual core1g nvidia 8600gt4g hyperxon vista. i had it installed a while ago and everything worked PERFECT. I just dont know... I'm going to run a few more test and ill post the results.. thanks for the memtest tip. I had this program a while back on another pc, and cannot believe i forgot about it. ha. BigBodZod
The thing with DDR2 memory is that it's dirt cheap now a days, so if you find a faulty stick, you can easily get a very nice, name brand 4GB kit for around $50~60 USD ;) Another thing to look at is cooling, have you cleaned out the fans and heatsinks inside your machine recently ??? How long have you had your machine running ???? Depends on your environment of course, I work in the Point of Sales business and of course Pizza Shops have tons of flour dust in the air, hehe ;)
