Laptop getting really hot

First off, I am using a Toshiba brand Qosmio gaming Laptop with duel processors NVIDA GeForce 9800 series graphics card, 2 GB RAM, and with over 150 current free harddrive space. When playing oblivion I notice that sometimes my Laptop gets really REALLY hot, sometimes so much so that it has the potential to actually burn me. I'm really not sure why this is happening because I normally play with my laptop on a flat surface to prevent the fans from being blocked. Also I know the fans work on it, but it still heats up fairly hot. Do you think I need to sit it on top of something that would allow more airflow,, because I feel like even though it should it may not be getting enough ventallation. Is this a normal type of thing when playing a game like oblivion?

What exactly do you mean my power supply is cooking?

I sorta left something out. This type of issue doesn't always happen. In fact normally my laptop will get somewhat hot, but not super hot like it has become a few times before. When I played last night I was in an oblivion gate which is when the gameplay started bogging down, and thats when the laptop got super hot. I have noticed lifting my laptop off of whatever it is sitting on and holding it for a minute or two allows it to cool down alot. However it doesn't take long for it to heat back up. What do you think my best option would be to take in this matter?

I've never used laptop coolers too, but I heard they are quite good... I might consider getting one. Laptops can get pretty hot when playing games. Placing a laptop on a flat surface is still not enough to get it cool. Try it on a edge of something, or on you knees and with the coolers free from anything closer than a feet. I've noticed that not only the place where the fan is can get hot. I don't have a laptop cooler so I just use something to elevate it at the end when I place it on a desk.

I had a laptop for 5 years before building this PC and that little stinker would get so hot that it would burn my leg. Most of it is due to clogged air vents and dirty fans, but laptops aren't designed very well for airflow at all. Even the gaming ones....*sigh*

I'd suggest blowing some canned air in all the vents and keeping the laptop slightly elevated. I had to make "feet" for mine so it would elevate in the back to allow more air to go through the fan that was on the bottom. Make some "feet" or consider purchasing a notebook cooler. There are a few nice ones out there

I haven't looked at these in so long...they have come out with quite a selection now :)

Oblivion makes my PC work hard. I have it set so the fans stay low when the temps are cool and boy do they whiz up after playing the game for a bit.
