What would you recommend?

Hello all, I recently acquired the wonderful game of Fallout3 and I'm looking for mods do you have any suggestions? I prefer mods that don't totally destroy lore so if you could keep that in mind any and all suggestions are much appreciated.

With Thanks

If I were to suggest a handful of essential mods, I would go for:

Reanimated

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7670

Changed animations help immersion by making characters look much more natural and less awkward.

Sprint Mod

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1854

Makes traveling around quicker, and can save your life sometimes. Extremely well made with custom animations and head-bobbing effects in first person view. Balanced by using Action Points. You can tackle people!

Fook2

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4448

Overhaul mod that improves too much to summarize here.

Mart's Mutant Mod

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3211

Adds new types of enemy and variations in appearance. Also has options for increasing spawns and other neat things.

I use a lot of other mods as well, but if I had to choose a handful that I couldn't do without then those would be it (I think). If you have any more ideas about the sort of things you'd like to have in the game, I could recommend some others.

If you want to keep your lore intact I wouldn't use FOOK, it adds a shitload of stuff that just kills the lore.

I suggest:

UPP (Ultimate Perk Pack)

adds a gigantic amount of perks. 2 Generic FO3 perk packs, a pack for experience perks, a pack for beverages and a quest perk pack

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1409

Fellout + Enhanced Weather

major upgrade to the visual style of Fallout 3, removes the shitty green "filter", adds nice sunglares, rain, snow, storms, etc...

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2672

Reanimated

like mentioned by Nogford

Sprint Mod

like mentioned by Nogford

MMM (Mart's Mutant Mod)

like mentioned by Nogford

Destruction

Adds destruction to almost all items ingame.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1904

Cross Weapons/Armour repair

Fixing armour with scraps of metal, glue , etc... or repairing weapon types among themselves (G3 and AK-47 repair each other, etc...)

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1838

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=183

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6302

Sniperzooming

Adds scopes to the game for snipers

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5351

MTC Travellers

Adds travelling NPCs to the Wasteland and the towns, no more feeling of being the only scavenger in the whole game.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3375

DCInteriors

Instead of every building in DC being closed, this mod allows you to explore most of em.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5573

Also if you DON'T like the inaccuracy of snipers/assault rifles I would recommend these 2 mods:

Accurate Assault Rifles: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=217

Accurate Snipers: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=734 (This one appears to be outdated and has changed since I downloaded it, their are alternatives.)

Good luck out there !

I might be blowing my own horn here a bit, but I recommend that you use CASM. Using CASM is a good way to prevent save game corruption, and basically guarantees that you never need to worry about saving your game again.

One thing to keep in mind with saving, whether you use CASM or not, is that you should never load a save from in-game. Always quit to the main menu and load from there instead, otherwise you'll experience some game breaking bugs like invisible enemies, guns that won't shoot and object that can't be interacted with.

If you want my opinion on it then I say forget about the mods. Play the game "vanilla" as they call it. If you mod the Hell out of it you will get bored of the game in a short while and shelve it. Play it straight with only a couple of mods or utilities that look interesting and then add more a little bit at a time to keep your interest going. After three years I am still playing Fallout's sister title Oblivion mainly because I haven't seen it all yet. And as long as great mods keep coming out I never shall. A quick fix or the long haul, it's your game. The one thing that is certain is that you're in for a hellava ride either way!!
