P.S. Here is my load order. Rather more than I was thinking when I wrote the above! Still not a very big list though.

I can see I've overlooked an .esm low in the order, though I think it's unlikely to be a problem there as it didn't seem to cause a problem when low in the order before. I'll try moving it up the list though.

I have been thinking of shortening my list of homes and companions as I have RRCompanionVault, though I'll probably keep Mini Hideout as well. They all worked together fine before the current problems though. The only difference is that the loading order is a little different here from what it was when the problem started and of course Lings has been removed. Lings was low in the list.

I sadly am also in this boat now, though my situation seems uncommon compared to the others here.

I've no mods at all installed, its a vanilla install basically, and my issue just sorta suddenly started happening out of the blue. Now I've had this occur to me before, but normally if I would just go back to a previous save and go from there I'd be fine, but now -all- of my saves are doing it, no matter which out of the three I have (One auto, two manual), the one manual of which actually I know should be fine since I had already loaded it at one point.

I've even tried restarting the system, switching drivers again (I installed beta nVidia drivers in order to fix my previous issue here; http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=164085), but it just kinda happened out of the blue and now saves simply will not work at all. I didn't seem to notice any resolutions listed in this topic outside of being mod related, as this topic shows it happening mostly after people installed new mods, but since that's not my case, anyone got an idea what it might be for me? o.O

First of all, get Timeslip's Fallout Mod Manager. In your load order, you have an esm loading after plug-ins. FOMM will get your masters to the top (the default launcer ... nope). A dependency on a master that loads after plug-ins will create an unstable game environment and up the chances you will crash.

You will also need ElminsterAU's FO3Edit utility and Miax's great FO3Edit Guide - Web-enized to learn how to use this must-have utility to find and resolve mod conflicts. Once you've used FOMM/FO3Edit to optimize load order and resolve conflicts, you'll want to run FO3Edit in Master Update mode. This takes care of some other Bethesda issues that can crash the game. Miax's guide tells you how to do that too.

Hope this helps.

Been through that all in the other topic I linked to, I have no mods so its not a mod order issue, and I already used FOMM to disable the Windows Live and "Invalidation" thing, which got me through most of the game. I've not used FO3Edit yet, was gonna get it for for something else, however my inability to save for some reason fixed itself, was able to play again last night and today, but now I've gone into random BSOD's as a result of my nVidia driver, most of the time right as I try to save or the autosave kicks in (which to my sadness results in corrupted saves now...), lol, it seems like the crashes get worse and worse the farther you get into the game. As a good while player of Oblivion, I wonder where the heck Bethesda went wrong with this one...

Edit: I do however wonder curiously if one of the various Windows XP updates I did last night might be causing this recent issue, so gonna play around with it a bit more and see what reveals.

Add me to the list of sudden unexplained total existence failure whenever a save attempt fires - any door attempt, any quicksave attempt, any fast-travel attempt.

Specifics: I do have a buttload of mods installed, but I've had zero issues before even in the same areas that this has started happening in. The game was 99% stable thusfar, then I went to the Temple Of The Union. Quicksaved, attempted to go into Hannibal Hamlin's room - and bam, right to desktop. The quicksave will not load - it does go to the "loading" screen, but crashes to desktop without finishing. Any attempt to save, even from earlier games(I have one at the Regulator HQ that was A-OK beforehand) results in an immediate full crash, whether auto, manual, or quick. This is not my first trip to RHQ, and a bug in the Temple shouldn't affect a save from BEOFRE I ever reached it, should it?

Starting Gear is a handmade mod of mine that adds a few items - all handplaced and nonconflicting AFAIK(specifically, a hat, a backpack, and two guns handplaced inside RHQ).

I had no "terminal" issues up until about 8 AM today - just some occasional "oops" crashes, pretty much, probably because I did install to the default folder. Any suggestions, thoughts, etc?

Update: Backed up my save file, cleaned out the save folder, started a new game - zero issues with saving, loading, etc. on the new game. Dropped the old one back in, and right back to "any save = crash".

The culprit seems to be a save-game corruption. As far as your mods go, you'll want to get ElministerAU's FO3Edit to find and resolve any issues that the listed mods might be contributing to your save game state. You'll also want Miax's great FO3Edit Guide (get the latest version from my Web-enized page).

Try your new game for a bit and see if the corruption issue pops up at roughly the same point. If further saves corrupt at roughly the same location/quest stage/etc., then it helps to pinpoint some possible culprits.

It may not be mod-related; I played a fair chunk modless before restarting with mods, and the Temple of The Union seemed to be fairly glitchy overall even vanilla - I had more "normal" crashes there than anywhere before or after, and couldn't fast-travel until I'd run a fair distance away from the building.

If it is a corruption, is there any fix, or is it just "restart time no matter what"? I'd really hate to lose the 27 hours time investment...

I make multiple saves, especially before getting close to areas where I know there might be some issues (the one you cite, Rivet City). I disable Autosave for Rest, Wait and Fast Travel by default ... but if you don't, I'd recommend it before getting to such areas. I usually go into the console and type "pcb" (Purge Cell Buffers) as well. I'm not 100% sure it helps, but it can't hurt.

If the save is corrupted, then yes, you're pretty much hosed. Sorry to say.

Well right now I have a couple saves that are fine, its just the random BSOD thats bugging me, still trying to nail down exactly what it is, sadly the BSOD crash message I get is rather bland, and has about a dozen+ different meanings that I've found searching so far, lol

I guess its time I get FO3Edit and see if it helps me any :P

Thanks for replying with suggestions. I had pointed out that I was aware that I had previously overlooked one .esm that was in the wrong place, but relocating that didn't make any difference. I was already using FOMM for arranging my load order. I have FO3Edit; many thanks for pointing out Miax's guide, which I've found very useful.

In the end, I decided it was simpler to just uninstall then reinstall the game and my mods and restart, though I decided I could do without Lings and a couple of other mods. Everything has been fine so far except for one small unrelated conflict or bug that affects part of one companion mod and which I'm yet to chase down.
