followedcheckz
I recently purchased Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition for PC and bought a new Nvidia Graphics card (285 GTX OC 2GB). And updated my computer from Vista 64 to windows 7 64. My overall system specs are: Intel 2 Quad Core Q6600285 GTX OC 2GB8 GIG RAM400 GIG HDWindows 7 64 Bit Ultimate650 W Power Supply Even though i have all my drivers updated and even the sound card (realtek HD audio) drivers Fallout 3 is freezing only when i look towards the sky, especially the sun. When i had my older 8800 GTS 640 mb everything ran smoothly...Aside from the need to turn the AA down everything was fine. This to me is very confusing and any help would be appreciated. The freezes only last a second or two, but it is quite annoying when running around on the upper level of megaton, or outside in the wasteland in general. i am able to turn the res up to my native, and ultra settings with my new gfx card. Everything is good fps, aside from the freezing.
phoneyLogic
Sould not be a performance problem...Maybe it's some kind of misconfiguration of your gfx setting. Check out some Ini tweaks regarding the micro stutter problem too. Welcome to the forums 8)
Branimirzg
I think that you have to change one of the lines in ini for quad processors.
followedcheckz
thanks for the replies, i checked out the link you gave me psyclops and i'm about to test it...i did alot of the multi threading commands, and reduced some FOV. Also enabled background loading in the .ini files i aslo looked at bUseBackgroundFileLoader=1and iNumHWThreads=4 i'll change iNumHWThreads= to 2 if it still persists iNumHWThreads=2 is my current setting now and there is still a freezing issue, it seems performance wise, it's a little smoother, but not 100%. what i can do it post a gameplay vid of mine, on youtube and see what you guys think
csb
Mini-freezes can also be caused by fddshow. Get the K-Lite codec utility and install it. The latest version automatically disables fddshow for Oblivion and Fallout3 (and some other games and applications). This has resolved screen freezes for many users. You might even see an fps boost. followedcheckz
i downloaded the k-lite codec ultility and installed it, ran it as admin. and i still have my problem. for some reason my older gfx card ran everything smooth. but the newer versions i have installed gtx 250 1 gb, and now my current, gtx 285 2gb "stutter" or freeze when looking at the sky, or rotating the camera. but inside homes, buildings etc. everything runs fine...could it be the drivers? maybe i need to downgrade or something
csb
Drivers are also a problem sometimes, this is especially true of nVidia cards. There seem to be some "stable" ones. 182, I think for older cards, and ... hmm 191? Something like that.
No4h
Install geforce 186,18 WHQL and your problem has been solved! :sorcerer: :excl: Only a clean install ensures that the driver is correctly installed ==> How to install new drivers
followedcheckz
i looked up drivers and it seems 186.18 is for 32 bit win 7 and vistai have 64 bit. hmmm. and the latest driver for my card on the nvidia site, is 191.07i think my problem is with my refresh rate, it was being forced to 59 hertz i used my monitor c.d., to install the driver then i was able to select 60 hertz permanently. i'm doing a clean install of FO3 and i'll post if anything improves
