Hello,

The older versions of NVSE downloaded and installed fine but the newer versions won't. The older version was a zip with multiple files and this isn't. can someone walk me through this.

nvse_3_beta2 (1).7z is the new version.

Let's get this one more time step by step:

1. You downloaded NVSE from: http://nvse.silverlock.org/

2. You opened the archive and extracted the contents of the folder inside (not the folder, but the content) into FNV folder (so that FalloutNV.exe and nvse_loader.exe are in the same folder).

3. Your version is supported:

Compatibility:

NVSE will support the latest version of Fallout available on Steam, and only this version (currently 1.4.0.525). When a new version is released, we will update as soon as possible; please be patient. We also support the 1.4.0.518 version of the NV GECK. The German "no gore" version is now supported.

Just including that, but if the updates were disabled, then your version might not be the latest.

4. You have Steam Community enabled.

And it still does not work? Could you post exactly what the error message says?

Well, you could try NVAC: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/

Also, try this solution: http://filenetworks.blogspot.com/2010/10/fallout-new-vegas-fix-crash-freezing.html

Random freezes including BSOD errors can occur on certain multi core hardware environments due to incompatibilities with the game engine. You can try to avert these issues by limiting the game to use only two cores.

  1. Open fallout.ini file in My Documents\My Games\FalloutNV with a text editor such as Notepad.
  2. Look for the string bUseThreadedAI=0
  3. Change it to bUseThreadedAI=1
  4. Add another line beneath the above, iNumHWThreads=2
  5. Save and close this file.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 for fallout_default.ini file in installation dir (default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas) //changed path from the original one

Otherwise, I'd recommend trying to check if you have some mod problems (as in disabling a bunch of mods to see if the problem persists - if it does, then disable another bunch, if it doesn't then the problematic mod is in the last bunch - divide and conquer).
