Thanks for all the info everyone.

 

Think I'll just stick with my awd faithful XP and DX9, I'm hammering 60 FPS pretty much everywhere I go in Oblivion so think a small performance increase isn't worth the cost of buying 7 (don't like Vista) and hassle of installing a new OS etc.

Your Radeon card does support dx 10 if thats what your asking.

 

If your planning on upgrading to win7.

With dx 10 you would have a good 10FPS increase. happens with all cards that support it.

 

dx 11 is also backwards compatible with dx 10 cards to.

 

Windows xp was a great os but windows 7 is alot better, works better with older hardware then xp i think.

why not just go with the MS autoinstaller ?

 

it keeps your DX version to the latest thats out and supported by the OS (if you use XP thats gonna be DX9.0c + security updates)

 

there is an inofficial DX10 for XP but its god awful, causes horrible bugs and freezes etc.

 

also the DX installer will not install a DX version that your graphic card can't use (was a pain to install dx11 on win7 cause of my onboard graphic chip which doesn't support it (the "real" card does).
