Advice RE using external model on vanilla weapon

The Dan Wesson PPC revolver looks seven shades of cool, but it doesn't quite do enough damage, the sound sucks and it uses CALIBR 357 ammo which is hard to find.

The vanilla Blackhawk and BS Callahan revolvers, on the other hand, look too plain IMHO, but the stats, sound and ammo are OK.

So what I'd like to do is to set just the two unique 44s to use the scoped Dan Wesson PPC model, while leaving the non-unique 44s as they are. I can't just change the model name in the meshes subfolder (assuming this would even work), because the non-unique 44s use the same model, so all of them would get changed.

This is what I tried: booted GECK, loaded fallout3.esm, went in items - weapons and found the Blackhawk, clicked "edit", then "art and sound", then "edit" (under "model"), "edit" again, and navigated to the PPC model file in data/meshes. Double clicked on the scoped model, and the GECK crashed.

Where am I going wrong?

Geck is 1.5, F3 is 1.7.

Thanks.

Not sure why your geck would be crashing. I tried it on mine and I got it to work for the most part.

I'm not really sure where the SCOPE HUD or SCOPE Textures go, and the scope looks rather odd on the gun I created... but the it's there and uses 44 sounds and bullets... I could try to work on it more and send you the test version... but I'm really not all that great at this stuff.

Does it give you an error before the crash? It might be the model crashing the geck try opening the model in nifskope and if you get errors when opening the model in nifskope then its probably the model.
