eth_ch3
I lack computer knowledge and I accidentally damaged the graphic card of my old laptop (HP Pavilion dv9000 with NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GS, and Windows Vista 64-bit). I was playing Oblivion and then suddenly the screen froze, and after I restarted my laptop manually, I saw weird flickerings and color stripes, and I was unable to get into Windows. I tried reformatting but it was useless. The same thing would happen, and I got an error about nvlddmkm.dll (I read that a lot of people experienced that due to driver problem and instability of Vista). I had to send my laptop to HP for repair, and it'll probably take weeks and even months to get it back. I have to have a computer with me for school, so I'm forced to buy a new one. I bought a Toshiba L505-S6955 with Windows Vista 64-bit. I'm not really sure what graphic card it has, but I think it's Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family. I am not really sure if this computer can handle Oblivion, as it's not really a gaming laptop. Please give me some advise! And also when I get my HP laptop back, should I upgrade it to Windows 7? I heard a lot of bad things about Vista. Thank you for reading this.
Illiad86
Ouch, that stinks man :( How did you do that? Sounds more like the GPU overheated to me. Oblivion cannot run on Intel graphics. Those chips are not made for gaming and Oblivion doesn't support them. Upgrading to Windows 7 is a big yes over Vista any day ;) It's very stable and is less of a hog, I'm quite enjoying it. Never owned Vista but have troubleshooted numerous friend's computers with it, such an annoyance lol.
