Thieves And Dark Brotherhood

What are your thoughts on these two guilds. I thought I read somewhere that these two guilds were gonna be hostile towards each other. I really want to join both with the same character, but I'm afraid an allegiance might have to be made to one or the other for quests and such. I wonder too if vampirism might be playable in these guilds. I'd love to be a blood thirsty vamp rising through the ranks of the dark brotherhood.

I have a feeling the Thieves Guild won't let you join if you're in the DB. Not sure there, but I do vaguely remember something to that effect. Like, they let in brother thieves sure, but not cold-blooded murderers. :P

As for vampirism... maybe in the DB, but I doubt they'd be allowed in the Thieves Guild. And you'd still have to avoid the guards (or feed on them... muwhaha) in cities to reach the HQs. ^^

Not necessarily. Multiple characters can be fun to play but only (from experience) if they're of different classes (Magic, combat, stealth). When I played EQII for a while I had three characters that ran the gamut from Swashbuckler to Warden. Needless to say, I actually enjoyed the complexity difference in tactics when playing either characters as it was challenging to change my mind-set by taking an entirely defensive strategy as opposed to an offensive one.

As far as vamipres, I'd heard from one forum that supposedly vampires can walk around in the daytime provided they've feed first, but that seems contrary to the pre-supposed style of play associated with vampires established in MW.

I'd agree with Switch concerning his stance towards the whole DB/Thieves Guild thing.

As Master Thief Garrett said, "I'm a thief, not a murderer". I'd believe the TG would tend to feel the same way. AFAIAC, there's a difference between taking money for your livelihood and taking lives for money. Thievery is a noble if not misunderstood art, whereas the DB has no nobility nor art to it's profession. The only assassin's guild I have respect for is the Morag Tong, and that's because they hate the DB. Anyway, sorry to go OT there.

PS: Yes I am one of those who has a strict "no kill" policy in Thief and MW if I can avoid it, and yes I am also a practitioner of the art of "ghosting".

well - i'v joined all the guilds and so far none are giving me troubles. i'm a Silencer in DB, Bandit in Thieves, Knight-Errant of Silver Knights of Cheyindal, first class in both mages & fighters guild & i am Arena Champion.

not that the arena champ makes any difference though :P

There is not any politics btw the guilds, i was doing quests for both DB and TG and i became a silencer and gray fox. The bad thing is you are hated if you only do quests for these two guilds, not necessarily bad for me. :P The scenario of DB is good i think but it was a bit short and easy, maybe for me because i played them as a vampire and when you are thirsty for 4 days you get 20+ to strength, the negative side may be nobody talks to you, not necessarily bad for me neither, :P and you die under sunlight before 30 sec, i admit that is bad :D. TG was not so hard neither, because you get 20+ to sneak also, the way i told above. :D

well i'd disagree a little, as for when you enter the "family" you're informed that your style of eliminating targets is something unique so yes if you want to go in and slaughter everyone it's ok with you and the dark brotherhood.

but there is an art in those tasks, the art of assassins...the beauty of death itself served in a silent manor, the ethics of an assassin you should present yourself - as you were informed of being an assassin, a hitman to be exact, you are supposed to silence the specified targets, but what way you choose to do is up to you... you may come in swinging your heavy weapon and decapicating everyone on your path to the target - db doesn't care as long as you do your task...

but for me it's just another higher level of sneaking abilities, far beyond the tg tasks... my vctims never knew what stroke them. no, they haven't heard or felt anything but the cold hand of death itself coming for the heart of the target... and nothing, i mean no detail, was close to total masacre-like manslaughter. it was direct stealthy and swift action with only one dead corpse lying on the ground after i leave the place. that's the art simple thief will never understand ;-)

yes as you might notice right now, i'm a fan of hitman, where you also could play the two ways - the first whuch is rather doom/quake style eliminating everyone including target, or the silent swift second where only the target is eliminated and noone even knows that it was you, the right hand of the death ;-)

Ah Hitman games are a whole art themselves; even though you may go crazy lezrning the routes of guards, where the cameras are and what pahts to follow or not.

So far I'm having no problem doing both DB and TG quests; so anyone can I guess. Be sure though, to keep doing some side-quests or some MG or FG quests meanwhile, if not Main-quest, to get some fame and not only infame, cos otherwise then everyone will start disliking you, and well, unless you're the antisocial kind, it's not cool.

You can join The Morag Tong and TG and any other guild at the same time. Im also with mages guild. but I dont know if progression is possible. Ive heard of TG members get kicked out of the mages guild for some significant job in the TG. but I am now Listener to the Black Hand, and have no more jobs there so I really was glad I got that out of the way.

I suggest if you want to have a go at all the guilds in one character, do them one at a time. I cant progress to GF though I think ive got a bug or something. It stops... I hope someone can help.
