removing the "Glass" effect

I recently downloaded a great set of armor and a awesome sword to go with it, great models and great textures but i feel it's ruined by the "Glass" reflective map on it, by glass i mean the same specular effect as the glass armor, the white dots that move around. how do i change it to a normal metallic specular effect?

I don't know exactly, but what I would try first in that situation is generate a new normal map.

You can do it in Gimp. Start with this tutorial.

I've seen this happen with mods before. Nothing ruins a really nice texture like a shitty normal map that makes it look painted on marble.

This tutorial shows you how the effect is added to an existing object. To remove the effect, simply reverse the instructions...but mainly it is just changing APPLY_HILIGHT back to APPLY_MODULATE and renaming the material from Env_Map2 to something / anything else.

The reflective glass effect is created / controlled by the glass environment shader (.sdp file). I cannot remember the exact shader file it uses but if you want to modify the effect, you will have to modify the shader. The shader will have to be a "replacer" mod which will replace the shader...and subsequently ALL glass effects. So basically, it would not be a good idea to modify the shader since it would affect everything that uses it...not just your armor piece.
