IDEA::- Disabled Pipboy

ever noticed you can be blown limb from limb yet your pipboy is crystal clean?

i had an idea that NPCs can disable your pipboy by shooting, exploding or hitting it.

once hit there could be exposed wires, sparks, cracked screen and it becomes nothing but a clamp on your arm. it could be fixed at a crazy scientist NPC who worked for Vault-Tec, he could repair it for you at a cost of 2 Scrap metal and 100 caps or 50 Pre-War Money(hes crazy, remember)

after reapir it could be re-textured automaticly so there is patches of metal welded on and rusty metal keeping it together.

hell, just an idea.

please give feedback and expand the idea if you wish.

hold up, not trolling or anything, just explaining that at the birthday party the pip boy guy, stanly or something, says that you could drop a bomb on it and it would still work, said the 3000 models were really reliable

I think the bigger problem is that since the Pip-Boy is the user interface to do almost everything in the game, you'd be seriously S.O.L. if it was disabled completely. If you did actually try to do this, I'd say it would be a bad idea to disable anything in the inventory menu (ITEMS button) - would mean no healing and no ability to equip another weapon if your current one breaks or runs out of ammo. The only functions you'd lose by disabling the other screens would be healing crippled limbs and fast travel, but even if you were willing to make the player suffer without those abilities until the Pip-Boy is repaired, there's a conceptual issue: the Pip-Boy is a game interface that's taking the place of your character actually performing those actions in the game world. We're not actually meant to believe that the Pip-Boy itself is making your character change weapons/clothes, drop things, or drink a cola.

But maybe... it could be reasonable that some of the things the Pip-Boy conceivably does could be knocked out - like displaying the stats on inventory items, viewing player stats, status effects, notes, and the like. I'd probably stay away from the map too.

I'm still not sure this is a good idea anyway. And besides, many players don't take to mods that add new ways to cripple them, even if it makes sense ;)

yeah, stanley does say you could drop a bomb on it, but the Vault-tec vaults (most of em) didnt do so well on the surviving side. 98 or whatever was over-run by radroaches.... besides, he didnt say it would be bullet-proof.
