alex2avs
I recently upgraded to Asus n6800 512mb . The card works fine , Oblivion works fine on high settings, everything is fine . BUT ... when i quit a game , Oblivion in this case (but happened to diablo II too ) i get a nice&cute black screen , with a nice black pointer on it. Any idea what causes this and how can it be solved ? Thank you , Alex Valentine

alex2avs
Thanks , Vic :) Also , the black screen occurred when I logged out from an user(windows user). Apparently it doesn't happen every time.
bben46
As it happened outside of a game, I suspect it's something in your card itself. the 6800 is a few years old, but runs Oblivion fine, though most reports I have seen say it works at low to mid range and not high. Check to be sure you are not running at a screen resolution not supported by the board, and a refresh frequency also (most boards at that time were limited to 50 or 60Hz, although some would go to 70Hz. Newer drivers may allow you to crank up these settings, but the board may not like them You might try tweaking the board - http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html You might also look into cooling - if the fan is clogged with dust, or not running - or as in one I looked at, the cpu cooler was blowing its hot air directly into the air intake of the video card. Moving the vid card to a different slot and turning the cpu cooler around made a lot of difference in stability. Be sure you have as many fans blowing out as you do blowing in. The hot air has to be able to get out, as well as the cooler air in. Also, reseat the card, just pull it out and plug it back in (with the system powered down and unplugged of course)
alex2avs
Thank you , Ben. my refresh rate was on 75 Hz , and if i remember well , the max value accepted was 72 hz ... well , no longer black screens for now . The fan is nice and clean (recently installed , even if it's 2 years old , as the last user told me) .SmartDoctor with Enchanced driver from Asus are installed , therefore the fan speed is well controlled. Thank you again , Alex Valentine
