Need help changing graphics settings when running Skyrim through SKSE and NMM

So I just added a video card into my system today, previously I had been running Skyrim with my Intel HD 4600 integrated graphics. Because I was lacking a video card until now, I had to keep the graphics settings on Medium. However, now that I have a new card which can run Skyrim on Ultra, I'm trying to change my settings to Ultra. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble changing the settings with SKSE. When I launch Skyrim through Steam the launcher pops up and it detects my video card and sets it on Ultra. I can then play it through the launcher opened on Steam, and the graphics are clearly on Ultra. However, SKSE does not run that way. So I close out of Skyrim and open Nexus Mod Manager, and then through that I launch SKSE. My problem is that every time I switch over to SKSE, my graphics revert to Medium and there is no launcher that is opened to adjust the settings with. I realize this is probably a rather easy fix, but I'm pretty inexperienced with this kind all this, and I'd really appreciate any help I could get. Thanks

(Sorry if I've posted this is the wrong place)

I suggest trying to re downloading SKSE. All the settings on SKSE should be determined through the steam launcher normally but obviously they aren't. I'm just guessing you actually pressed play on the steam launcher (normally how the settings are finalized)

you could try going to documents\my games\skyrim and deleting renderinfo.txt and have a look what device is listed under sD3DDevice="your card here"

You might have to delete both skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini, run the skyrim launcher so it auto detects your card, close it then run skyrim via the skse shortcut :)

Okay so I've tried what both of you suggested but unfortunately it still hasn't resolved the issue. Thank you for your suggestions though. After deleting renderinfo.txt, skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini i launched Skyrim without SKSE and it rewrites those files. However, when I launch Skyrim through SKSE after deleting those files the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini are not rewritten. Could it be possible that SKSE is using different ini files and saving them elsewhere? Any more suggestions?

You are using one program to use another...not needed....

Close NMM....now that NMM is not in the way.....

GO to the game folder...find this file>>> "skse_loader.exe" That IS the file you will use to run the game. you can either run it from the game folder, or you can Right click >Drag-n -drop> "create shortcut" on your desktop. Always use this to run the game.

Now that you have the proper shortcut to start Skyrim (when you need SKSE). GO back to the Game folder and run the default game launcher once, creating the new INI files. NOW do not open NMM. Start the game from the SKSE chortcut.

The SKSE launcher does not write any files...it uses the ones that are existing....what does the SKSE.log say?? SKSE has a folder in the My games skyrim folder....E:\Users\"your name"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SKSE

if no files then a permission thing?...run everything as Admin...

Okay I followed those steps to the letter but it still launches SKSE in Medium quality and normal Skyrim in Ultra. I also tried running everything as admin but that made no change either. Thanks for telling me about not needing to use NMM though , I created a shortcut like you suggested.

post the Log file...E:\Users\"your user name"\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SKSE Both the SKSE.log & SKSE_loader.log put both in separate Spoiler tags..

Right click that new Shortcut>Properties>on the Compatibility TAB....check off "run as admin" this way it will always run as admin.

Steps to take....

Open the default game launcher..make your changes ..IE select Ultra, screen rez, Start the game once. Close the Game.

Do NOT delete any files.

Start the game from the shortcut ..IE: SKSE_loader.exe

Alright sorry for the delay, I tried re-installing Skyrim and SKSE, but that didn't help.

Here are the files.

skse.log

  Reveal hidden contents

skse_loader.log

  Reveal hidden contents

I tried setting it on Ultra with the correct resolution and played the game for a minute, closed the game, didn't delete any files, started it from the shortcut and it still played on Medium quality.

This is a guess...

Do you use Mod Organizer? SKSE is loading "hook.dll" and the load line says "blah-blah ModOrganizer blah-blah".

If SKSE is enabling MO(?), or MO is running, it will check its own (virtual) ini files for use in-game.

If this is stupid, my little brother made this post.
