Hi,

I use fomm for few weeks now and without any problems. But today, im unable to start the mod manager. I start the program but nothing happen, i can see fomm.exe in processes (50% of cpu??!) but nothing else happen, it just wont start. I played it yesterday and it was all fine. I installed a new mod called "tesla sword" and tested it, no problem. Today, it doesnt work anymore. I thought it could be related to the mod i installed today, Alexscorpions Sniper Gear, but i removed it and fomm still doesnt work. So what the hell is the problem plz? I uninstalled/reinstalled fomm, the problem remains.

What happened?

Thanks for help!

A good and fast troubleshooting method -- Go to Fallout3.exe and to the FOMM .exe and right-click the files. Select Properties and then run in compatibility mode, giving both programs Administrator privileges.

Hope this helps.

Ok seems that all win XP users will have the same problem as me. A recent xp update makes fomm doesnt work. Any thoughts about the cause(s)?

I just tested it on my XP box, and even after applying all updates (except that @#¤&!! search crap) I had no problem starting FOMM 0.9.17. Do you remember which update hosed your system? Also, which XP version do you have (Home/Pro) and if it is an OEM version, which company were behind it?

Thats weird... I saw in fomm comments that some others xp users cannot start it too. I dont remember what the update was, it was few days ago. But i could start fomm without any problems before.

I have microsoft win xp home edition, oem ver, service pack 3, OS Version 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail).

No message, a blank line, then "f:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\fomm". But i do see fomm.exe in windows task manager (that poo eats 50% of my cpu e8500 Oo), but nothing else. I tried to reinstall it, nothing. Tried with older ver, nada. What is going on??

You could also take a look in the event viewer (Start+R and type eventvwr) to see if anything happens when you open FOMM. I also noted that you installed Fallout 3 to the default location. Usually, this is not a problem in XP, but in my case it is installed to a non-default location.

Another option is to uninstall the latest Windows updates one by one, untill FOMM works again to find the offending update. This can be done by opening the Control Panel, choosing Add or Remove Programs, and making sure the "Show Updates" checkbox is checked (it may take some time to populate the list).

The suggestion about removing the updates is a good one. There are times when updates by Microsoft impact the Runtime, making it incompatible with "older" programs (they're supposed to be backward compatible). A started process that shows as running in Task Manager, but does not complete its execution is an indication of this.

So when you look at the update list for the last update, see if: (1) any changes were made to the .NET runtime, (2) any changes were made to Windows security and (3) if there were any other distributables that might impact the other two.

Installing Fallout3 (or any game) to other than the default gets rid of most of the security issues (XP's security policing of Program Files is more lenient than Vista's and Windows 7's). I would recommend installing FO3 (and most other games) to a C:\Games directory (i.e., C:\Games\Fallout3).
