Pronam
No problem. If all will keep adding experiences we can turn it into a nice article after a while.
LHammonds
In my experience, FRAPS does the best out of what I have used but it is not "free" A free / open source alternative is called Taksi but there are no Oblivion-specific tutorials / articles written specifically for it yet. You might want to give that a try just to check it out. FYI - Taksi does not record audio. LHammonds
WaLkAwaY
Thanks to everyone for their input. I had ran into a problem with recording and so put everything on hold. It however was a one time issue and my stopping was only due to lack of sleep and not paying attention to the fact there were programs running in the background :whistling: . I have revamped my ideas and actually wrote out a plan as to what I am wanting to do. For right now until I learn more about making movies I am concentrating on making montages this will not only allow me to learn the programs I am using but also give me experience in adding content to the montage to make it more personal. So I will list what I am trying to accomplish and see what you all think. Pointers and methods you may use and any information if you have experience with the tools I am going to use would be helpful and appreciated. Presently I am working with the game Modern Warfare 2 but will move onto other games once I have time. Hopefully this does not discourage any of you from replying as I know these are forums for Oblivion and FO3, however I think the concepts are the same just different games. Computer: XP HomeAthlon 64 3700+ 2.2Ghz2GB RamGeForce 9800GT 1GBHeadset Logitech G35 USBRecording to a separate HDD not running OS or games. Tools: FRAPSAdobe Master Collection CS4 Idea: I am trying to make montages, yes simple I know but I am as I said just starting out. Other than piecing together footage of games I would like to also include certain things to make it more fun to watch and experience. Adding text either scrolling marquee or pop up blip type text to a sceneRemoving or replacing textAdding an image or images to the footage other than what has been recorded and not native to the game itself IE: A photo I have taken on my Digital Camera placed on a wall in game.Different camera anglesMy own audio, either in the form of music or voice over. Issues limitations: My own experienceFRAPS and USB headsets. While recording with FRAPS if my mic is open FRAPS will record the in game audio just fine. As soon as my mic picks up a sound or I start to talk FRAPS stops recording audio. If the mic is closed FRAPS will not record audio. This in itself really is not an issue as I will add my own audio however it really is irritating when trying to give a play by play on my current game. Doing a voice over after the fact does not capture the frustration and swearing  (as emotional charge is hard to recreate while watching the actual game footage) that real time playing does. Again my thanks to all of you for helping me out.
LHammonds
Doing a voice over after the fact does not capture the frustration and swearing  (as emotional charge is hard to recreate while watching the actual game footage) that real time playing does.If you want to capture your own audio on top of what the PC is cranking out, consider recording your voice with a separate device and merging them after-the-fact. For example, I created using my iPhone as the voice recorder mainly because the quality was far superior to the craptastic microphones that I have. Once I captured the audio, I downloaded them to the PC, converted the audio type and applied it over the video and adjusted the volume to match the music. NOTE: Recording audio separately as described would require that you use headphones during gameplay to reduce the background noise. You might also want to "cue" where you start the recording with something onscreen to make merging easier later. LHammonds
