Bazerk83
Well, after doing EVERY possible thing known to man regarding Fallout 3 fixes, I'm still getting too many glitches, losing the ability to repair items (which completely dissappears from the pip-boy), CTDs, Freezes on saves, lock-ups etc. I've decided to go back to basics. Complete wipe from my hdd and reinstall of Fallout 3, patch 1.7 and DLCs. I'm going to leave out the unofficial patch this time around because it seems to conflict too much with mods. I'm installing no mods this time either. This is an effort to see if the game will remain stable with all the external fixes (i.e. ffdshow filtering etc.) To be honest, I'm sick of this damn game. Bethesda should be embarrased at bringing out such a bug riddled game. Also, all of the "so-called" fixes, in my experience, don't work. I've tried them on Vista AND on Windows 7. I've tried running in compatability modes, used all kinds of versions of Nvidia drivers, applied d3doverrider, tried patch merging, de-activating windows live. Edited the ini, you name it I've done it. So with all that said, I refuse to accept that the game is still bound to have so many CTD and glitch/freeze problems just because it's an open world game. THEIR OWN PATCHES DON'T EVEN HELP. So my question to anyone reading this is. Do you have a crash free, bug free 100% working version of Fallout 3 on PC? I doubt it, but if you do could you please list what you have installed and what (if any) fixes you have implemented, what O/S you're running and what changes you've made to help stability. It's a big ask I know but if we can all collaborate together by comparing stable installations and how they were achieved, we might be able to weed out almost all problems. Heavy on the might, lol. RideTheCatfish
I've encountered a few glitches here and there on the PC version, but nothing too hair-raising. The only 'fixes' I have installed are the official patches and then the unofficial patch, and the mods I have installed very rarely conflict. It's possible I just got lucky. Sorry, I'm not much of a help. Good luck, though.
gsmanners
It isn't perfect, but the UF3P is essential. It doesn't just move a bunch of floating rocks down (although there's a lot of that). IMHO, if a mod conflicts with UF3P then there's probably something wrong with that mod.
Bazerk83
You may well be very lucky. Thank you.

I've known people to not install UF3P and have no problems.
gsmanners
In my experience, the four main sources of crashes are: 1) xlive.dll <-- this is the #1 source of all crashes and instability, you MUST disable this2) ffdshow conflicts <-- as easy to fix as adding "Fallout3.exe" to a line of exe's that you have exclude3) multi-core CPUs <-- just add the "iNumHWThreads=2" and "bUseThreadedAI=1" to your Fallout.ini4) beta video drivers <-- just uninstall the driver, reboot, install a different version, reboot

Regarding the xlive.dll disabling, what would you say is the best method for doing this as there are quite a few. I used GFWL disabler but does this ACTUALLY cure the xlive.dll problem? overload1977
using the fake xlive.dll helps as well you can downloaded from here :)
Bazerk83
Thanks overload. Will do. Also, weird thing I've just realised. Every time I've ever installed Fallout 3 I've used the US 1.7 patch. However I live in the UK and my (genuine) GOTY copy purchased from GAME store says on the back "Made in the EU" So you'd think this would be for the 17. UK patch right? Well it won't install the UK version. Invalid path or w/e. I've downloaded GFWL 3.0 (supposed fix) No good. I've applied GFWL disabler. Still no good. Will try replacing xlive.dll file but willing to bet this doesn't work either. It's weird because the US patch installs. WTH?
Branimirzg
I have made in EU version too...Works with both US and UK patches
