Goldfinch
OK, I know this topic seems strange, but I still get the question...The nuclear war breaks out in 2077, and it's said to be a result of oil shortage. And as we can see, the cars using nuclear energy have already been invented in 2077 (Evidence is that in the game, after a car explodes, it always emits some radiation----you can see the red RAD bar grows when you approaches a car shortly after it explodes. This suggests that cars produced before 2077 are already powered by nuclear energy) Now, facts are:1.Cars today use oil; 2.Oil shortage leads to the nuclear war in 2077; 3.Cars in 2077 no longer uses oil, and alters to nuclear energy; 4.In 2077, the state's nuclear industry is able to provide as much nuclear energy to sweep the lands out as to power the cars; So, here's the question, when oil shortage is already solved by the newly-developed nuclear energy, why would a war break out because of that problem? What's more interesting, the war happen to end in the destruction of the neo-energy. Maybe the shortage problems still remian since oil is also important raw material for chemical industry and other fields like that. But maybe industries no longer use as much oil as before in 2077, we can't tell----especially when things like nuclear-powered cars have been invented. I hope you can understand what I mean, it's just waht I come up with after having played F3 for a fairly long time. Looks like the storyline is very interesting and a bit contradictory... NailPeeler
There are discrepances becuase there are more than one cannon. Quote on the Fallout wikia * Fallout and Fallout 2 are canon according to Bethesda, as Fallout 3 incorporates the majority of the back story of Fallout and Fallout 2. * Fallout 3 is Bethesda's production, therefore part of Bethesda's Fallout canon. * Fallout Tactics is considered semi-canon: major events are canon, but some details are not. * Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is not considered canon in any way. * While Van Buren is not officially canon, some elements were incorporated in Fallout 3 and its add-ons. You can find the timeline of events here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Resource_Wars Where you also have the history of the Resource Wars. And the history of the Great War can be found there: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Great_War Hope you find your answers ^^ I think that the FOWikia has all the info existing about Fallout since it refers to the FOBible and every single detail referred at the Fallout series. gsmanners
Wars start because of demented notions of "national security", not because of resources. The control of resources traditionally determined the outcome of war, but of course when your capacity to inflict damage exceeds your ability to defend against it the issue of resources isn't even a factor. Whether the Fallout writers were aware of these historically proven facts is a matter of debate.
