UCM
After playing Oblivion for a couple years, I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the Imperial City. Exactly why does the cultural, military, and art powerhouse of the continent have stones in the streets, or fungus growing up around houses? Why can I traverse the city and see everyone and everything there is to be seen in less than a real-life hour? I understand Bethesda had an unbelievable amount of work to do elsewhere (you know, important rocks to throw everywhere), but the Imperial City is TINY. Six districts, with nothing to do in the majority of them. The Arboretum serves no purpose, Elven Gardens is visited only a couple of times regularly. The Temple District is really only there for the culmination of the main quest (oh, hey, spoilers!) The Arena, the Palace, the Waterfront, and Talos Plaza are the only places visited by the average player. I want to remedy this. CONTENTSHelp WantedDescriptionPhoto GalleryReleaseContactSpoiler HELP WANTEDFirst and foremost, I need a texture artist. That's what this entire thread is devoted to; trapping finding one. I have a mesher who has made some great things for me, but now we need a texture artist to make his meshes look better. For example, here is the new door to the Elder Council chamber. It desperately needs a new texture. Here it is first opened then closed. You can see more examples of his work down in the gallery. Any offers or suggestions for who to ask would be greatly appreciated. Also, anyone willing to make a couple of interiors to reduce the mind numbing drudgery that is making middle-class homes, well, I would love you. DESCRIPTIONI will explain my districts as the guards do. Starting in the Northeast, moving clockwise, going from the outside to the inside, you dirty criminal scum. -We have the Legion HQ in which the reserve army is trained regularly and the higher-ups in the Legion can be found. This district will house an obstacle course, sword training, and later an option to join the Legion as a reserve soldier.-Next there is an ordinary residential and business district, the Innocence Garden. The only reason most people visit this district is the barely tolerated brothel located here.--The next district is also a residential district, but it's most distinguishing feature is a large and impressive museum built in the center. I am considering having this be Tar-Meena’s new location. It won't be a glorified power-weapons vault, but an actual museum with bits of ayleid artifacts. Such as the all-powerful plate some Ayleid probably ate a bland, boring dinner off of centuries ago. -After this is a district named "Akotosh's Arms". Besides the waterfront, this is easily the worst place to live. Named after their chief deity in an attempt to improve the area, it has only added a sense of irony to the place. It is, besides bravil, the Skooma Capital of Tamriel. You can become “involved” in a small part of a Skooma empire. -Then Septim Road, the main thoroughfare into the city, right after Talos Bridge, and eventually leading into Talos Plaza. This district is mostly park.-Finally, the Manufacturing district made for the construction of ships, housing materials, statues, etc. Located right beside an enormous grove of trees used for lumber, and an open area of the lake perfect for ships. Now, the central districts. -First is the Pelinal Place district where many merchants make their homes. It is also well known for being the party location for Legionairres in training to drink off a hard day of drills. (Besides the Brothel, that is). Hogithum Hall is located here. It will serve as the City’s courthouse. Also a massive, custom-made statue of Pelinal. -Next is the new location of our beloved Arena, which has seen a lot of improvements including a Fighter’s Guild, a few simple houses, and a tongue-in-cheek hotel called “the Red Rooms” which offers a discount to fighters. The Arena itself has received many improvements, most of them simply imported from another mod I made but never ended up releasing. The Bloodworks are now more extensive and most of the Yellow Team members can be met before their fights (Hint: they are rude. Totally, man.). Towards the bottom of the Bloodworks is Agronak’s new room, along with a bar area to serve the fighters. If you befriend the barkeep he can slip a little something into your opponent’s mug, you dirty, dirty cheater.-After the excitement of the Arena, we have the Agora. A fine district boasting one of the finest hotels around, they see more business from more "interesting" people than other inns.-After this is the new location for all the people who used to live in the Temple district. I moved them because I didn't feel like anyone should actually live in the same district as the Temple of the One. Besides a monument to Allesia in the center, it hasn’t changed much.-Next is the Imperial City Forum. Between Septim Road and Talos Plaza it is one of the more impressive districts . Nicknamed "The district of lights" the monument in the center with four ever-burning pyres keeps the district lit as if it were daylight even at night.-Lastly the foreign quarter. On one side of the district are two buildings, they both serve to house the embassies of the provinces. The other half of the district are residences or businesses hoping to take advantage of the novelty of foreigners. Finally, the inner districts. -You remember the good old Market district. But now, not everyone and their one-eyed bat-winged grandmother has a shop. Only a few do, for the most part cheaper sellers will only set up shop on the weekends in stalls lining the streets.-Replacing the Arena as the innermost Eastern district is the Theatre district. I felt it odd that the center for cultural activity did not have any kind of theatre You can help bummed out actors, watch plays, or maybe even perform in one.-The classic Arboretum is next. Except now it's not a rocky, fungal place with a few token flowers. I've added a wishing well and fountain in the center where you can actually make small donations for temporary luck boosts. Head over to the Arena. Just, don't try taking any of the money from the fountain.-Nine's Haven is the new name for the Temple District. In addition to the temple of the One in the center of the district, it is surrounded by chapels to the eight Aedra and the new graveyard.-Next is Talos Plaza. I've given it an upgrade in looks, and fixed several interiors. Besides that not much has been changed here.-Finally, Elven Gardens is now actually filled with gardens. Beyond that, and moving a few NPCs around, little has changed. Besides the districts, I felt that the Imperial Prison, and especially the Arcane University, felt woefully uninspired. That's why I have endeavored to improve them. The prison is now on a steep, rocky island in Lake Rumare. And the Arcane University? It finally fills the description of amazing magical university. It is a floating island outside the city with a magical pathway to reach the top that will only appear once you've received all your recommendations. (Don't worry, I have fixed every instance of needing to see an NPC who spends their time in the University.) Finally, the palace itself. I have redone most of the district, both inside and out. I gutted the palace and bathed in it's blood. Then I rebuilt it, even better. Thanks to Korrow for providing me with meshes, I have completely redone the council chamber. The guards say that anyone is welcome in the palace, but besides Ocato and a couple of other guards, no one is there. And for good reason, the place is dark, creepy and probably pretty cold. The chamber now boasts plush red rugs, benches for people to meet and greet, and the council chamber now has windows with which to see through and watch the council deliberate. I have added crypts in the basement for anyone to visit (within specific visiting hours) and a throne room people may visit. Beyond that, I am keeping quiet. The palace said it will break my knees if I tell anymore. Now, outside the palace I have replaced all the graves (well, moved them to a more fitting graveyard) with a massive hedgemaze. And then- and then- and THEN!!!- Oh, hell. Look at the pictures. Besides these, I've added a lot of impressive cosmetic changes around the island itself. AncientSpaceAeon
First of all, I was thinking you're just creating a huge idea, asking someone to do, but too lazy to do the job. But now I see your current work, I salute you !!! But I have to remind you there's a few mods out there who may not be compatible with this. There's one I know and it's VERY popular ,this. You maybe can create a compatible one, but maybe after you finished. And maybe you want using texture replacers for your screenshots, such as this. As I said, I salute you for your work !!! I'm so sorry I can't help you with anything (my speciality is exteriors, but looking at those screenshots makes me feel like a total novice). UCM
Thank you for the kind words, they're always appreciated. As for compatibility, no matter where I post any information regarding this mod I am bombarded by replies about compatibility issues. I promise I am very, VERY aware of the mods that won't work. Here is my opinion on the subject. ImpeREAL and others are different takes on this city. I have my own, equally valid, view of this city that I want to make and share. Some people will continue to prefer the mod(s) they already have, some will switch over to mine. Either way is fine with me, I'm making this mod for those who will like my mod. When it comes to texture replacers, I try and take screenshots without any changes to the vanilla besides my own mod. I think it gives players the best idea of what my mod does and does not include. Also, some people might hate whatever texture replacer I've chosen which could turn them off from the mod. All in all, vanilla textures are probably safest for screenshots. I'm not artistic on the computer, hence the reason I need texture artists. I'm definitely a paranoid "if you want it done right, do it yourself" type of guy, so I hate needing to ask for help like this. Maybe I should form a team. Or at least get a spokesperson not so inclined to ramble insanely in his own thread.
