failed to initialize renderer for Fallout 3?

Recently, I had to reinstall my OS, which is Windows XP Pro. Before I reinstalled it, I could run Fallout 3 perfectly fine. I had no problems with crashing, or anything. After I reinstalled the OS, I installed Fallout 3, but when I click "Play" on the Fallout 3 Launcher, An error message pops up saying, "failed to initialize renderer." I have no idea what to do. I have googled it, and I'm guessing it has to do with plugins, or drivers that I need to install, but I'm not sure on what to download.

This is what I'm using:

AMD Athlon 64 Processor 4000+

2.41GHz, 2.00GB of RAM

NVIDIA Geforce 8500

NOTE: I know for a fact I can run it, I'm just missing plugins or a patch or something.

You can go to nVidia's Official Site and get the video/graphics driver you need. Also, check the TweakGuides.com Fallout3 guide for the recommended/most-compatible driver for Fallout3 (as well as tweaks you can make to your Fallout3.ini file to optimize your particular system).

For XP Pro - the latest NVidia drivers (191.62) will work. Some users who use Vista have said that the 186.xx drivers work best for Fallout 3. You can download older drivers by clicking on the "Beta and Archived Drivers" from the link that csb gave you. I have tested Fallout 3 with all NVidia drivers on XP Pro SP3 from 178.24 to the 191.62 - all of them worked.

BTW - did you install SP3 for your XP? If not, go to this website.
