Panzer4
I've been using onboard sound and it's time to get a soundcard. I mainly use headphones. Here are my main specs: Abit AV8 Mainboard, AMD Athlon 64 3700+, Radeon X1650, 2 GB RAM, Win XP Home. I don't have a great deal of money to spend and, of course, would like to get the biggest bang for my buck, so any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks. Illiad86
How much do you have to spend? If you have about $60 you can get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...8-006-_-Product It's better than onboard, but isn't really all too great. Or you can spend $80 and get this lil' godly card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...2-006-_-Product You have to spend a decent amount of cash on sound cards, the cheap ones are no better than onboard sound... Hahha, this one is on my Christmas list: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...2-014-_-Product fingers crossed hehe Oh oh, do you have PCI Express on your motherboard? From the looks of it you have an older system. But, you can still find standard PCI slot sound cards about :)
Panzer4
Unfortunately I don't have PCIe. The first card on your list is probably the most realistic as far as my finances (or lack thereof) go. The second one might be a possibility, but, alas, I see it's PCIe. As to the last one, well, I don't think Saint Nick would be quite that expansive this time around even if it would work on my board. Thanks for the help. P.S. Loved your verse. I laughed out loud all through it.
Illiad86
heheh yeah everybody loves Dr. Seuss explains computer crashes :P I almost peed myself reading it for the first time, had to use it as my signature haha. My dad laughs at me...I remember my boyfriend and I were troubleshooting an old computer he got. The guy that had it before had a line to made the CD drivers work in DOS and we're just sitting there laughing our butts off...and he just sighs and says, "Oh sheesh, they're laughing at numbers?" lol yeah that Turtle Beach one isn't too bad :) My friend bought that one as his first sound card and it's a bit better than onboard sound. Having a sound card is nice, takes away CPU cycles that the onboard sound has to use. I'm guessing you have AC97 audio or does that board have HD audio? Love the old school graphics card haha ;) Is it an x1650XT or an x1650 Pro? :D
Panzer4
It's the X1650 Pro. It was actually an upgrade I installed last August from a Radeon 9800 Pro at the time I decided to get Oblivion for the PC. I know there are astronomically better ones out there but it's doing the job for now and will have to do until I replace my computer. At the moment I have AC97 sound.
