so you wanna be a trader

have been chatting in a thread i started in general about a mod idea that i had and it seems to have worked out into a reasonably sound idea.

bassically, imagine if there was a network of a few small banks and one big one in the city ruins that allowed a certian number of npc's in the game to have a merchant box with a refreshing inventory and caps. not only would this allow you to buy stuff off random wastelanders but it would also allow you to sell to random people. also, you could edit the script that makes the megaton woman that runs over and give you stuff to allow all those with a safe box to run over and ask if you have a specific item.

this would let you sell guns ammo ect to wastelanders for extra caps and prehaps a bonus if they ask for somthing specific and you have it.

if this was ever realised into a real mod you could also put in a couple of quests involving robbing the bank or foiling a robbery plot.

thanks for reading.

Well, if you figured out how it will work, then why do you need someone else to make it for you? Doesn't really seem hard, just a lot of time repeating the process of makeing merchant boxes for NPCs.

Personally, I think it is already too easy to make tons of caps, so without any sort of reason other than makeing money I probly wouldn't bother using such a mod. So maybe you might want to do one of two things.

1. Combine it with a mod that makes it much more neccessary to trade to get the supplies you need to survive, makeing caps an actual challenge to get.

or

2. Give some other sort of incentive to want to trade with people other than just makeing caps for yourself.

By incentive, I mean some sort of story aspect, or something that it will unlock, or someone or somegroup that it would help by tradeing stuff. For example, maybe the people in Bigtown need someone to trade the stuff they have with people from other areas of the Wasteland and such, like Bigtown may have a ton of scrap metal and busted computer parts that they have no use for, but you could go to the BOS Outcasts and trade for the supplies Bigtown needs or whatever. Maybe in the end you could earn a house or a cool unlockable item of some sort.

But thats just my personal opinion, take it or leave it, doesn't matter to me.

as well as loving fallout and mods i also love my degree. if i had time to learn to use the geck and make mods i would. if you dont like the idea or wouldnt use it thats fine. i however like the idea of being able to trade with regular people. im sure there are other elements that could be worked in to make it a little more interesting, that is why i posted the idea up. thanks

i would hope that a few new npc's specifically made as bank staff gaurded by mercs would be not to hard to do. a small building to duplicate in a couple of towns in the wastes and one slightly bigger branch is all that is needed in my opinion. take 3 of most of the friendly npc factions, give them a merchant box in the bank and BAM!

if anyone knows how to go about making a project like this i would be more than greatful for some help. cheers

If you have Point Lookout, that already has a bank-style building with a vault. You could probably copy that and modify it how you want. Create whatever NPCs you want to run the thing and give them the appropriate actor scripts to control it. I doubt it would be difficult.
