Installation Error for GOTY edition

Ok so, I just got the GOTY edition today (Yay for me!) And I got home and tried to install it and came across a little error that well... wont let me finish installing it. The error states that it cant copy a nessecary file and that the source file is corrupt. Now I am not 100% sure but I think it may be caused by the new copy protection they are sticking on games these days because my Star Wars The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition is doing the exact same thing as well. And it has a warning about the new anti-copy protection on he back saying it may not be compatible with all disc drives and virtual drives. Now I just dished out $50 per game and there is NO WAY in hell that I am going to go out and buy a new DVD-ROM drive. This one drive I have is an all in one CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD-RW/CD Reader/DVD Reader. And its fairly new. And It has never givin me any problems. I have searched all over the internet and cant find any solutions to this problem. I am running XP, SP3 And I exceed all the requirments. Any help at all would be great. Thanks you guys and girls.

If it is indeed the "copy protection", then you would best be served by a visit to this FAQ:

Unfortunately, new DVD drives tend to be picky about discs or may well be defective. If you can get the drive replaced, that might be a better solution, because when an installer says the source file is corrupt, that typically means the medium (DVD in this case) cannot be read without errors.

If you can borrow an external USB DVD drive from somewhere that could be a solution to actually getting the game installed, and if you get FOSE, which is recommended anyway if you're planning on using mods, you can launch the game from that without the disk having to be in the drive.

Of course you might be unlucky and have a faulty disk..

Thank you for the help so far. Seeing as how its doing the EXACT same thing word for word with my star wars game (only diffrence is the file name in the error) I dont think its a faulty disk. Sadly, no one I know of has an external DVD-Rom drive. And Secure-Rom seems to only work on files that are already on the computer like ISOs and ROMs. It wont read CDS. Or maybe I just dont know what to do I am unsure. All I know is its annoying -_-. Still no luck yet. there has to be some type of patch or program or something that fixes this error. It seems to be happaning on all new games that just recently came out.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe you could get somebody to install it using their computer onto a high-capacity USB memory stick, or USB hard drive, which you could then run with FOSE on your own machine. I have no idea if that would work though.. It's more than a bit sucky if Bethesda really are making software unreadable on some drives..

Secure rom refuses to install games on systems that have a LEGAL CD bypassing program installed. Such as Alcohol. I think that if you remove the CD bypassing program (or maybe just rename it) the game will install. Then after it has installed, you can put it back.

Somehow, Secure rom seems to believe that anyone who uses a program to either bypass the requirement to have the original CD in the computer or a program that is capable of duplicating a CD for archival purposes is automatically a pirate, even if the program is legal.

SecuROM is part of the encryption on the disc itself, it is wired into the installer (not sure about the launcher). SecuROM causes two problems, especially when installing to the default Program Files directory.

First conflict -- Windows UAC vs. SecuROM (this is most prevalent on Vista/Windows 7 OSes). Go into Control Panel and disable UAC. Try to install. Don't forget to re-enable UAC when you are done!

Second conflict -- SecuROM vs. some manufacturers' DVD-RW firmware (notably HP DVD-RWs, but probably others). This one is a pain-in-the-rump ... here I had to use my laptop's drive as a network share and install from there to bypass the kachuck-kachunk never-ending grind of trying to read (or maybe eat) the disc.

Honestly, why does Bethesda continue to use that POS encryption package? SecuROM's fine for business uses, but it really wasn't designed for game installation and encryption ... and Bethesda simply won't dump it (even after similar problems with Oblivion).
