theddd1
I'm in the process of creating a new mod for FNV however it's going to be primarily set in a metro/underground setting. Has anyone converted the fallout 3 metro tunnels, metro trains, stations, etc. to be used as a modders resource in FNV?? I know how to take the models from F3 and use it in FNV, but I feel it will take a long time to take every mesh and texture of the metro from F3, and then convert it for use in FNV geck. And so I'm wondering if someone else has done this whole process before and uploaded it in their mod? If so I would really appreciate it, as it would be incredibly helpful and it would save me a lot of time.
Deleted1205226User
Keep in mind that you won't be able to share your mod if it contains assets from another game.
TheVampireDante
Most of the FO3 content in already in the FNV archives, have you checked to see if any of what you want is already present? If it's not, then you wouldn't be allowed to include the files in a released mod, the only way around it would be to have users own both games and have them take the required content and put it into FNV themselves. theddd1
Keep in mind that you won't be able to share your mod if it contains assets from another game.So I wouldn't be allowed to use models from F3?? Are you sure about that? I find that very hard to believe Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I just looked at massive mods like Project Nevada, and that mod took every gun from F3 and put it in FNV. And there are hundreds of mods that do the same, however I haven't seen a single one that has taken F3's architecture and added it to FNV. Deleted1205226User
So I wouldn't be allowed to use models from F3?? Are you sure about that?[...]Yes, I'm positive. From the terms of service : "Absolutely no copyrighted work is to be used without permission of the original creator. bben46
Most of the assets from FO3 are already in New Vegas - they are just not being used for the New Vegas game - look in the GECK archives and see if what you need is already there or not. Best option - If the assets are already in the New Vegas GECK - you can use themIf they are not, and you can make your mod so that it requires the user to have a valid copy of FO3 where they can get those assets you can do it that way. The reason Beth does not allow using some assets is that they don't actually own the rights to them. Those assets were licensed for one game and one game only. If the copyright owners see their assets being used in another Beth game - they will sic their lawyers on Beth for breach of contract. There is a third alternative - you can contact the copyright owner and pay them for the rights to use their work in a mod you are giving away for free. The copyright owners are usually studios that do this kind of work for a living and it's unlikely they will allow it to be used without paying them for it. And if Beth gets sued over something we allowed - we get sued - please don't do something that will get us sued as that would shut us down. The forth alternative is to recreate the assets from scratch - and they will be compared with the originals to be sure they are not just ripped. TrickyVein
Fallout - meshes.bsa contains a number of pieces from the metro dungeon kit that were never used in New Vegas including some in meshes\dungeons\metro\tunnelmeshes\dungeons\metro\station"\entryhall but the pieces from the large platform interiors in DC are not present. You can import anything from New Vegas's archives into the GECK.
RangerBoo
Wait. I'm confused, there are many of the textures for the models for FO3 in the GECK but not the meshes. Can the models still be used?

There are plenty of Fallout 3 models that FNV never used in the meshes.bsa. The things like the metro tunnels, were what I was looking for my mod. TrickyVein
The GECK contains nothing. Plugins have records that contain filepaths to textures and models in the game's .bsa archives. It doesn't matter if an asset is used in both games. Either it's used in New Vegas (contained in New Vegas's archives) or it isn't.
