mgrinshpon
Consistent crashes in random areas all the damn time. Anyone else having this problem with the same error string? Anyone ever fix it? Thieves Den after Living Economy, etc. In fact, when it's not crashing, all the places look like they are working together flawlessly. I am getting crashes every-damn-where. Starter dungeon, out in the open, in a house, whatever. It's insane. l3codecx.ax is something sound related. Thoughts? Ideas? dxdiag attached. ptbptb
Delete l3codecx.ax (back it up somewhere first). That solved the problem for at least one person and there were apparently no problems caused by deleting it. You can also try downloading and installing the latest DirectX distribution however there are some indications that this did not actually update the version of l3codecx.ax installed. mgrinshpon
I saw the same thread. Moving it out of the system32 folder right into the C:\ drive didn't help at all. If anything, it made it more unstable.
ptbptb
I saw the same thread. Moving it out of the system32 folder right into the C:\ drive didn't help at all. If anything, it made it more unstable. Oh, a tricky customer then. ;-) The problem was also mentioned in another thread that I suspect you haven't read. The advice given was: 313 :名無しさんの野望 sage : 2008/06/29(日) 23:08:46 ID:61JHzhUv >>312 「ファイル名を指定して実行」で「dxdiag」と入力し 「サウンド」と書いてあるタブで「アクセラレーターレベル」かなんかを下げてみましょう それでも駄目な場合は、PC起動時にBIOSに入りオンボードサウンドを切ってみて エラーが出ずゲームを継続できればサウンドカードを増設しましょう 314 :名無しさんの野望 sage : 2008/06/30(月) 00:00:11 ID:7oj8zn2o l3codecx.axのバージョンを1.9.0.311にあげることで解決するかもしれない So 313-san says to drop the accelerator level in the sound tab of dxdiag or to turn off the motherboard sound support in the bios settings and get a sound card. 314-san suggests increasing the version of l3codecx.ax to 1.9.0.311 but does not say how to do that (hence my suggestion to download the DirectX redistribution package, but I'm not sure it works). I think the codec involved is distributed in the K-Lite mega pack. I haven't used it myself so I give no guarantees.
mgrinshpon
I've installed the K-Lite pack at default settings, removing about 90% of my existing codecs in the process but not the mythical l3codecx.ax. It's supposed to be a part of the Matroska pack but no dice so far. Next up is killing acceleration to a standard and then basic. Have an X-Fi next to me after that. mgrinshpon
Alright- I tried the codec pack, tried all 4 settings using the stock card and purchased a new card. I'm fairly certain the oblivion installation is good. I'm out of ideas save for doing a complete Windows reinstall.
ptbptb
I'm fairly certain the oblivion installation is good. How certain? Having done both I can say that an Oblivion re-installation is a whole lot less trauma than a Windows re-installation.
Illiad86
lol...I'm forcing myself not to reformat so I can use my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate just because I don't want to reinstall Oblivion :P I find that more of a pain in the butt than anything, especially installing all the mods and such. The missing file is one that comes standard with Windows. It may have beendeleted by the user, or possibly with the installation of a codec pack. Hereis what you can do to restore the missing Fraunhofer codec (l3codecx.ax): 1. Insert your Windows XP disk.2. Go to Start->run3. run: expand e:\i386\l3codecx.ax_ c:\Windows\system32\l3codecx.ax4. run: regsvr32 l3codecx.ax Substituting the proper drive letter and system path. Alternatively, you can copy the file from another machine (from theWindows\system32 directory) and then do step 4. Had something similar like this happen to me...but on Linux...omfg what a pain :(
mgrinshpon
You sure that command is supposed to have that underscore there? The command as is did nothing.
ptbptb
You sure that command is supposed to have that underscore there? The command as is did nothing. Well it would only work if your CD drive is e: and the file l3codecx.ax_ is in e:\i386\l3codecx.ax_ Note that 'final underscore' is the standard Windows naming convention for compressed system files.
