"Ahhh," Druce sighs, smelling the leaves. "Much better."

"It's getting awfully dark," Druce says. He pulls out the magical sphere from his rucksack, and insertsit into the top of his staff. He mutters an incantation, and the group is suddenly enveloped in a dim, but warm, dome of light.

In fact it is less dark at that moment, with all the torches flickering eerily, than getting unbelievably cold. The stairs emerge at a junction where you can go straight ahead, left or right. Following your agreed approach you travel anticlockwise. Suddenly it seems unnaturally quiet. All that can be heard is the dripping of water and the crackle of the flames. You reach the next junction. Ahead, behind and to yout left are the tunnels all brightly lit. Drip, drip, drip...flicker, flicker...drip, drip, drip.

At that moment every torch goes out. There is a ghastly sigh of satisfaction. The 'thing' has found you. The dim light of Druce's staff is entirely inadequate to see by and indeed being magical seems to be struggling to produce even the little it can. You are sure the creature was not in any of the side rooms you passed. But from which direction is it coming?

(OOC> In what order are you travelling front to back?)

(OOC-->I believe I'm in the middle right now. I've simply been so caught up with playing WAR that I haven't checked back here on the forums as much as I used to.)

Ritz says quietly;"Everyone be quiet and not move, if it's quiet enough at least I'll know where it's coming and where I should fire at. Be ready for anything however." Ritz concentrates on listening to all sounds in the environment, quickly nocks three arrows on her bow and prepares to fire a salvo.

(OOC-> I believe that I am somewhere closest to the "middle-back" of the group.)

"Come on," Druce mutters to his staff, willing the light to last a bit longer. As the light was fading, Druce could feel the temperature dropping rapidly. He looks around at the group. "Which way is it coming from?" he asks nervously, casting glances from one tunnel to the next.

Esha takes her place near the back of their group. She has loosened the ties on her wrist-daggers so that they may be thrown at a target. In the abnormal chill she finds hereself less that adequitely garbed. She can see her breathe in the air and finds it moves little in stirring air.

You are suddenly aware that the creature is approacing from behind. As you make it out indistictly only Esha can recognise what you are facing. The creature is rotting, half dead, half decaying. Long wispy hair growms on half the scalp. The rest is bone. A maggot is crawling from one of the pupils of its eyes, the other eye hangs at neck level by a decomposing filament.

"Friends.." says Esha in a shaking voice. "This is a lichdame...there is no defeating this creature...it is so powerful it is known as army-eater in my home"

She looks around quickly..."We can only use magic or weapons to distract it and buy us time..we MUST escape now...we MUST FIND THE WAY OUT NOW!!"

"Oh man," Druce mutters. He runs up and pushes Esha out of the way. He mutters an incantation, and a wall of light appears from his hand, separating the group from the creature for the time being. "Go!" he yells to the group. "Get out of here! I can only hold this for so long!"
