aspectmatty
Please can somebody help me out - my mate recently bought Oblivion for his new windows 7 pc, but when he tried to install mods by following the instructions (put in data file etc) they would not work in the game. They came up on the oblivion menu's data files where you tick the box for it, but nothing changed in the game. He asked me to try it thinking it might be windows 7's fault (i'm on vista) but i have exactly the same problem. The file i tried was Yorkenheimer Race Pack 1, so that i could see if they worked as soon as i started a new game, but there were no new races to pick. Anybody know why? :(
malonn
Is Oblivion patched to version 1.2? A lot of mods require this.
ptbptb
Windows 7 and Vista have the same problem with Oblivion. You should not install into the default location. Instead install into somewhere like C:\Games\Oblivion
Rabbit1251
Did you install Oblivion to the default Program Files? Oblivion mods have a tendency not to work under the UAC Security Protocols under Win 7 and Vista. Try installing directly on the C: drive or make a folder called "Games" and install your games there. Oh, and welcome to the Nexus!! Rabbit

aspectmatty
Well me or my mate didn't install it to the default directory - we both installed it on to our external hard drives in a games folder. And i'm not sure how to patch Oblivion, i just installed it and tried the mod. As for UAC, there's only one account on my computer and it's automatically administrator. And i'm not sure how to patch Oblivion, i just installed it and tried the mod. When you start Oblivion on the initial opening menu, bottom left hand side the version number should shown. If it isn't 1.2.0416 then that's the first thing you need to fix.
bben46
It looks like you are trying to run 2 instances of Oblivion on the same computer. Unfortunately, Beth has anticipated this and taken steps to prevent it. When you install Oblivion, it makes changes to the Windows registry, telling the game where to find it's files among other things. Then, it doesn't load everything in the Oblivion, or even in the games folder. The Oblivion.ini that is used to keep track of things like video and audio settings - and a lot of other things is placed in an entirely different folder, in a different place. The saved games are in the same folder. If you haven't managed to place that one on your separate external HD then you will both be working off of the same Oblivion.ini, and the same set of save games. There is no simple way to have separate Windows registrys without each of you having the entire Windows install on your removable HD. The non-simple way to do that you will have to make changes to the registry each time you start, then reboot the computer to have them take effect. This could be automated with a script type program, but as the registry will probably be the same anyway, it is probably not worth the effort. The only difference I can see would be in the location of files. So each removable HD will have to have the same drive letter - no having one as 'J' and the other as 'K'. and the game will have to be in the exact same place on each one - ie: K:\games\Oblivion And the other files (Oblivion.ini and save game folder) will also have to have the same path - as the user name is part of this path, both user names will have to be the same - one cannot be K:\users\Jack\My Documents\ and the other K:\users\Jill\My Documents. (Assumes you have moved your users accounts to the K:\ drive) This is a theoretical solution, as I have never seen it done. You can create another user, name it Oblivion, and make it an administrator. Now, start the game under the Oblivion account. If you do try this, let us know how it works out as this is the first time I have run into this situation. I currently use separate removable HDs for playing and modding, and have been considering doing something similar. My system boots off of the removable HD using whichever OS is on that Drive. I currently play on Win7 HD, but I still mod on my older XP HD. Soon I will redo my older XP HD to a new Win7 and use it for modding - if I ever finish my current project.
