Small question...

Recommended Posts

Basically, my laptop is being weird. I used to be ble to play games, with no lag. Now, I get these weird bursts of lag andoml while doing things. Games will be running fine, the system will get noisier, it'll lag and then stop.

I only have like 20gb left of 250. I dont know what to delete or uninstall.

I can't be bothered anymore. I'm on the edge of smashing this Laptop up.

All want to do, is basically, uninstall EVERYTHING and start again. ALL OVER AGAIN. You know, registeringit again. Clean Hard-drive again. Install vista again. EVERYTHING.

Is there ANY way to do this? I mean, there MUST be.

Thanks in advance

Sure, you can reinstall everything if ya like, might not solve the issue tho.. Sounds like it could be an 'overheating' issue esp. if it cuts out after x amount of usage.. Id check the ports that allow airflow in/out of the laptop or even have the fans themselves check to see if they are working properly etc.. As for the disk being 'full', it could slow down a PC if the drive was heavily fragmented or there is not enough space to use/allocate to basic system functions (but that would be like if you had 100mb left or something etc..) You can always do a disc cleanup followed by a defrag and then see how the pc runs, but im betting it is just a little overheating due to clogged vents etc..

Yes there is, insert your Windows CDROM and boot to it. Then tell it to delete all the partitions it finds and then create a new one and install the OS onto it. This will erase everything on your PC and install the OS from scratch...which should get rid of whatever problem was slowing your PC down (such as spyware, bloatware and overall system registry destruction).

Of course, this assumes you have backed up all the data you want to keep...documents, bookmarks, emails, savegames, mods, etc.

It might have a restore partition. Check your documentation to see if there is a way to boot your laptop and have it restore it to factory settings (restore the OS).

EDIT: Before you re-install, you might want to investigate the possibility of malware on your laptop causing the problems. Download MalwareBytes and have it scan your PC for potential problems first. Sometimes killing malware will do the trick...other times, the system is damaged beyond reasonable repair and a re-install is the best option.

I ran Malwre bites. It's not even halfway through yet and I already have 177 objects infected.

Once it has finshed, does MB kill the malware? If not, what should I do?

EDIT: My god, it's lagging so bad it's missing out letters

I would stick with adaware or spybot, those programs tend to be untrustworthy like Malwre bites, stick with them instead. I haven't used that program so I'm not to sure about the untrustworthy part, just giving you other options to help you out.

Also this what i do, get yourself a good firewall and a good anti-virus like Kaspersky, and windows 7 pro 64bit, i haven't had a single trojen or adware since i installed the thing  no really, even the beta i had no Trojans or adaware with it at all. its amazing really.

Restarted everything. Saved some files that I wanted to keep. Dunno if it's actuallyy made a difference to be honest.

Haven't installed Oblivion yet.

Also, I use Norton Anti Virus, and I registered it a month ago. I can't remember the code for it and neither can my dad... Any other way to get it?

MalwareBytes is a legitimate program- It is shareware, (try it before you buy) the download is free, but they ask for a payment if you keep using it. Not like some of the scanners that pop up claiming "Your computer is infected" When you see that, you know it is because that is the program that infected it!

MalwareBytes http://majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html

Other legitimate FREE scanning programs that remove the spyware found.

Spybot Search And Destroy http://majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_...ools_d2471.html

Ad-Aware (there are both free and pay versions) http://majorgeeks.com/Ad-Aware__d5947.html

SuperAntiSpyware http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

It doesn't hurt to run the scan from more than one as each will find some that the others miss.

177 found does not mean 177 separate ones, it could be just a few that show up in multiple places on your computer.

It's a good idea to run a registry cleaner such as ccleaner when you clean out a lot of spyware, as sometimes they leave a registry entry that reinfects almost immediately.

Be sure to reboot both just before and right after running ccleaner.

Figured it out. Its the fan. Because of where the fan is located (right on the bottom), I dont think enough cool air can get it and enough hot air can get out. I propped it up on 2 books, and it seems to have fixed it.

Though, thanks to all of you, I now have about 177 GB of free memory and about 4 gb of RAM. Arma 2 might not be a lag fest anymore!
