Roc_Xel
Hi there, I m trying to get a nice oblivion working on my computer and damn this is not easy :wallbash: :wallbash: I wanna use the official patches, the non official patch, then Francesco (both) + MMM + 5-6 graphics mods, including flora and trees I and II + the update, natural, unique landscapes. I m so tired of the very difficult archive invalidation of OBMM which is in my opinion a bit weird, i ve decided to follow the advice that many gave me, i.e. using Archive invalidation invalidated ! . From the readme i read : -Some mods like "Francesco's leveled creatures/items mod" register its BSA's in the Oblivion.ini, after installing this mod you will lose those BSA entries and will have to add them back in. I know it sounds weird but - and it is my first question - it can be understood in two ways : after installing "this" mod can be both, either archive inv. inv. or Francesco's, same with "those BSA". From what I understand though it is that this mod refers to arch. inva. invalidated and that I have to add back the Francesco's. (I will still have to figure out exactly how to do that). Is that correct ? Second question, is that true only for leveled creatures items mod or also for Francisco's second mod, by the way much bigger, the optional new items creatures ? Third question, is it the same with MMM ? Will I have to add it back after having used ARchive invalidated ! ? And last question... When shall I use (install) archive invalidation? After I ve installed all my mods before playing the first time ? I guess that would be the good time to do it ? Leaving right now, be back tomorrow so don't worry if i don't answer right away, but I really hope you ll be able to help me. Thanks, Alex
Eshenaleros
if you want MMM and Frans to work together you may ned to get OOO as well, so that you can pack them all into FCOM. i'm not sure there's another way to make them compatible with each other, but I know it works because that's what I do. then you load up the envirnomental mods you want (try not to get any that conflict though). It's a good idea to follow the load order advise on the FCOM main page as well
Matoyak
If you do end up going the route of FCOM (strongly suggested...especially considering I don't think Fran and MMM work together in any other way) here is the most helpful installation procedure I've found yet: Click Here
Roc_Xel
Thanks guys for the answers but currently i m not willing to install fcom, i ve read it s complicated etc. and MMM + Fran seem to be fine to get started with. Maybe later though. They are absolutely compatible with eachother as the last version of MMM, when installed, asks if it has to be installed MMM for OOO , MMM for Fran's or MMM only , "vanilla". I ve read also many ppl using both without fcom and without any problem. But I still have to understand well this archive invalidation invalidated ;)
Matoyak
Well, the process for Archive Invalidation via OBMM is rather easy, actually...(Taken from the link I provided above):19. Go here and download Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM)- http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 Once downloaded, run the installer. Have it create a shortcut on your desktop. Run the shortcut. Once OBMM opens, look on the right side of the window. Click the "Utilities" button, and from the dropdown window, select "Archive Invalidation". This will give you a popup window. From here, make sure "Mode" is set to "BSA redirection". Then, at the bottom of this window, select "Update Now". This will have Oblivion load all the new textures, meshes, and sounds that have been installed through FCOM. You only need to do this once - when you install more mods later on, you can just load em up and go!This might be the same procedure as for non-FCOM builds. This installation procedure is for FCOM, but archive invalidation should be the same regardless. (And really, just an FYI: All FCOM is is a way to get overhauls like MMM and Fran's to play nice together...actually, the setups for FCOM include installing MMM and Fran. So you're already halfway there :P ) As a curiosity, have you used Wrye Bash to merge the MMM and Fran leveled lists together with the Bashed Patch? Because otherwise, I'm not sure if you're getting the full use out of either one...

Though I will warn you, you will need to read the begginers guide, it's relatively straight forward. I think the most frustrating part for me the first time I ever used it was downloading all the stuff to do it. If you do decide to do it...be sure to start with a fresh install. Roc_Xel
@ matoyak : thx for the answer.. fact is that many say diferent things about invalidation in obmm, starting with mods I use like better flora and trees etc. , which also speak about bsa alteration, ticking normal maps etc. And above all, I don't really know if it is necessary to do the archive invalidation every time i install a new texture mod or not.. The one i use, archive invalidation invalidated works great for all textures, but the problem is that it does eras Fran's mod. Annd i m not into Wrye bash yet, never used it, coz now I dwled and installed the very last version of MMM, 3.7 beta 3, which is now a bsa and not an omod any more. It is perfectly explained how to use it with Fran's, i.e. what to install in Fran's mod and in MMM. It worked perfectly by following the install instructions given in the mmm readme file, needed first when installing fran's already and then when installing MMM itself. @ grava, thnk for the advice, if i can't get this stuff working i ll definitely give it a try
