ESRB ratings

Yes, I'm a European, well, British anyway, and we are more relaxed about nudity than the attitude that prevails in the US, at least among those who rate video games. So I certainly can't see why what we ALL have (albeit buried under warm clothing ATM!), ie a nude body, is so much more heinous than dismemberment.

You got a point here.

It has to do with the differenties in our cultures, also based on a word starting with "R", which i´m not allowed to mention here.

Funny thing is, that we are all Europeans, USA, Canada or Australia. We (from Europe) are just the ones that stayied home.

Quick question why are you "adults" playing games when you should have jobs and be working to pay for food and rent im 12 i have a reason to play them i cant get a job thats why it just something to pass the time

(if you were offended sorry just askin questions)

As an adult i also have some time off. In Denmark we don´t work that much, 37 hours per week, giving me plenty of time for both my family and gaming.

Also check my profile and read my statement:

YOU DON´T STOP PLAYING WHEN YOU BECOME OLD,

BUT YOU BECOME OLD WHEN YOU STOP PLAYING.

Sorry, this got off topic. Back to the topic; if you look at the polls, you will get the idea that actually more than 50 % of the gamers are 18+, which (to me) meens that ESRB should not be necassery at all. We do not have it in DK. It is (i think) up to the individual family to decide things like that. The problem is not to make some proper rules for the teenagers to follow. No, the problem is for the intertainment industry to produce some decent games. Saying that, i do not think of games with no nudity. That`s harmless. No, i think of games not showing war as an "amusmentpark".

its kinda funny with what you said about nudity in video games, because being from Demark im pretty sure your culture is much much different that that of some one from the U.S. persay, Europeans in general find nudity natural and violence a taboo and somthing that no should be exposed to. But here in the U.S. we find violence entertaining and funny, but nudity- no one should ever see nudity, ever....

well what im trying to get at is who actually rates the games in the esrb, because one way or another the game is going to be rated completely biased and therefor invalid.

I wouldn't exactly call it invalid. Every country that has these sort of software rating boards has a different set of ethics based on their individual cultures and what people there think is appropriate or not. The so-called "bias" from these sort of ratings is really just based on what the country believe is right vs. wrong. The ratings in one country may be invalid in another, but it's not invalid within the borders of the country by which it was rated.

The base problem is still, though, the fact that they watch movies of the games rather than even just briefly play main parts of the game.

I would not say that violence is a taboo in Europe. We are not a bunch of old hippies, running around naked, saying "peace brother" to each other. But you´r absolutely right about the differenties in our cultures, also have a deep impact on what we would like to see, not only in video games, but also on tv and movies.

I have seen examples on video games from the far east. They are even more violent, with arms, leg and heads chopped off. They have deep roots in the Samurai culture. Yes, we are a big world of different cultures and different codex. I can only join your opinion that game rating will be biased.

Oh, by what i said i meant no offense, sorry, i just couldnt think of a better word than that at that time :)

True Balagor, the R word has it's influence...

Although my particular (RWORD) leader has some spectacular nudes by a certain Michaelangelo on his celing....

Such places are authorized. They don´t use ESRB ratings. And it is art.

So is a modders hours of work with a body mod.

I will call that art, but never the less it will be rated as "nude" "adults only" or even "porn".

Funny thing is that when one hit the daily shower, one will see a naked body. Oops

I don't mind the ratings, as long as there is no sexual content and nudity. I've been playing violent games all my life since I was 11, and I am still a mentally healthy person. I have never wanted to kill or harm anyone nor steal. I have seen real blood in real life, and it didn't affect me, I didn't find it shocking nor scary. My 14 year old sister is playing Fallout 3, and she is perfectly healthy aswell.

Besides, how about surgeons? They get to see the REAL stuff (you know what stuff I mean), and they don't go all like crazy. We do learn about blood at school, we get to see pictures of REAL blood in our books, so isn't that supposed to be shocking or scary?

However, sexual content is just quite dangerous for young girls, because they may get pregnant (they may get motivated into doing "IT"). Pregnancy at such a young age is dangerous for girls, now as their body hasn't developed to be able to give birth to the child. And they should concentrate on studying, but if they carry a child, they won't be able to concentrate at school, AT ALL.

If I hear someone swearing, then I'm not surprised. All teenagers (almost) want to swear in order to be "cool".

Blood itself is not that bad, it is what causes it.

I think the surgean has a different mood for making a rutine knee surgeri,

and for saving the live of a child damaged in a car crash.

I think the blood looks worse in latter case.

There is also the issue of morale in war games.

War is not the "Disney scene" they want it to look like.

The hero actually dies.

In real world war is somtimes unpopular.

And for the nude models, i don´t think it raises

the birth level a lot.
