ChrisChaos777
I tried to make this easy to read and as in depth as possible. Yellow Color Txt: Somthing I triedGreen Color Txt: Possibly Helpful Information Hello,I just got a new computer (XPS 8700) 3.4 I7, 8 Gb Ram, Radeon HD 7870 with a nearly empty 1TB HD (I am also running windows 8.1) and I cannot for the life of me get fallout 3 to start. I began by downloading it from the Gamestop app and was very excited to play on high graphics settings for the first time. As soon as it downloaded and I clicked on the launcher in my Fallout 3 folderI got a runtime error.I attempted to just click the exe and I got the same thing. It did not even take me to the menu so I could configure settings or click "Play" or anything of the sort. I cannot even see the launch menu where it shows the power armor soldier standing there all epic. Now I have absolutly NO MODS installed and my other games do not have any issue like this one. I thought maybe it would be a compatability issue. So I clicked properties and I changed it to run in multiple compatability settings, I tried Windows 8, Windows Vista service pack 1, and Windows Xp service pack 1.I do not believe this is the problem at this point. Now ive played this game on a older laptop running windows 7 and didnt seem to have any issues besides a few CTDs.This problem IS NOT a CTD though. It is a runtime error. I decided to look online but I cannot seem to find any answers and I am very frustrated at this point. A few have told me to try and reinstall Visual Studio C++ but I dont think that this is the issue either because ive never had issues with any other games regaurding C++ Runtime errors How can I get past this runtime error? Again I downloaded this game from the Gamestop app it is NOT A CD.Also I do not believe it is the GOTY edition, and I have not downloaded any DLCs I have never experienced this type of issue with any game ive ever played so I am wondering if this could be:1. An INI issue with newer computers specifically multicore PCs?2. Windows 8.1 having some feature that is blocking me out or causing my dlls not to work?3. An issue with the source I downloaded it from? I really enjoy fallout 3 and I would love to play it again on this new computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated even if its a link that has solved this issue that maybe I did not see. Please, im begging somone help me with this...I will do my best to provide any information needed to solve this issue. Thank you -Chris :ninja:
Purr4me
Does the launcher even load up?
ChrisChaos777
It displays for just a second and then the runtime error occurs. It does not reach the startup/launch menu (The one with play and all the other settings) so I cannot change my resolution, game settings, graphic settings or click play unfortunately. ChrisChaos777
I installed the attached files in the Fallout 3 folder, replacing any items needed to be replaced, leaving my INI as is but alas, I am getting the same result. Then I tried moving my INI which is named Fallout_default onto my desktop and just leaving the one you provided called FALLOUT yet that did not work either. Also thank you for the assistance I did not expect such a speedy reply. ChrisChaos777
Yes I installed the Radeon card myself. I have tested a few newer games such a Skyrim, Farcry3, and a few others and they seem to all work fantastic. I have not replaced any other components on the PC yet other than that. Very well I will put the other default INI back into position and save the one you sent on my desktop for future reference now. My Fallout 3 is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout
