Fallout 3 Visual Studio C++ Runtime Error on launch

Recommended Posts

My Fallout 3 is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3

That's the problem. you need to some how Edit the installer program so it installes outside else where ,never put this game "fallout3" into (

My Fallout 3 is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3)....ever.

Not only is User account control in charge of that folder, it is even more hectic to remove permissions on windows 8.1

windows 8.1 built in security will see tampering with data there, meaning modding in general and kill the processed cold.

Install to an external drive, if none is there ,make a directory name on the root of your C:\

call it GAMES. many programs including the nexus mod manager are programed to seek out this directory structure, we all avoid this (My Fallout 3 is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3).

I have never used Gamestop so I am not familiar with the website from which you downloaded. However, I just looked on Gamestop.com, and they do not have just Fallout3 available for the PC. They only have the Game of the Year. Are you sure you downloaded the PC version and not a console version?

@Purr4me: Fantastic! I will attempt a reinstall later tonight under games or something similar and post my results and let you know if it worked.

@M48A5: I am not sure why it would not show on the Gamestop website, I bought this game 2 years or so ago. my guess is that because the Gamestop app no longer supports in-app purchases that may be why it does not show up. I can assure you that this IS the PC version however because I have it working on my laptop with mods and all that. Again I cannot confirm if it is the GOTY edition or not because I see nothing in the data folder regarding the DLCs.

I will attempt a reinstall in the recommended directory tonight and see how that goes.

So, this is a version you have running on another computer and you are trying to add it to your new computer. What type of media are you using to install the game? Did you copy the game to a disc, flash drive or something else? Or are you moving the files from an old computer to a new one?

Confirmed, 2009 release of the standard game was there ,in the mean time the PC version is still available there for digital down load.

not sure about posting the link to it here? so I won't but I will take a screen shot and show that. PC version GOTY for PC is there. $19.99

how ever, other than a source, the problem remains in the install location for Either version.

there are other mitigating bugs that will be ran into also with this very old game and the new systems software Environment.

Im not quite sure what your asking. I have not copied the game in any way and am not sure what you mean by media type. I simply signed into my account on the Gamestop app and downloaded it onto this computer from the "my games" tab in the Gamestop App. Similar to what you do on steam. I havnt moved anything at all manually.

when you get things installed out side of the Program files folder ,on the root of the C:\ drive, contact me then, and we can walk through it.

I know for a fact due to your choices made as to Equipmments used , your going to have problems with this particular game. It's LOL, so darn old ,and windows has grown out of the old style of programing, a lot of things now are obsolete in the new system you posses.

there were problems, security risks with older .NET software's, so these are obsolete in 8.1 and kept that way on purpose.

Knowing all of this, I can only try and see where you need help with. The graphics things is gonna be tight, Radon? ehm, is that a all in one unit perhaps? The PC?

The fist thing the launcher does when launched is attend to graphics for the game, Know that what you have will not be there for it to find.

we need to program this in. How we go about it depends on the systems requirements and windows 8.1

I do not know what will take place ,I only know what works and what does not work.

this is the bug we are faced with:

  • Using the latest generic graphics drivers

You can also install a generic graphics driver from your graphics card manufacturer's website. These are usually kept up-to-date and are designed to work on a variety of systems:

  • Intel
  • AMD/ATI
  • NVIDIA

If you don't know which graphics card you have, look in the graphics section of Firefox's about:support Troubleshooting Information page.

Of these choices, you have what is called a self made hybrid unit, and all 3 of these choices here apply to that unit.

Intel (XPS) is built with (NVIDIA)

You installed a radon card which uses ( AMD/ATI )

The main board is (Intel) <------ that is one heck of a combination.

so basically if you can not get the game to ever run, you start with the intel link, get the version checker to verify what it finds you might need.

here is an example process, run this and sse what takes place, but do not download any thing just yet. just check and see first if it does find something wrong. ( http://www2.ati.com/drivers/auto/amddriverdownloader.exe ) "AMD Driver Autodetect" this determins the radon graphics chip sets you have.

if it finds anything it will pop up with a application built for windows 8.1 only.

All I need to know is if it finds any thing.

do this also with the other providers and see what is missing. you need to understand , graphics engineirs know about games, even old games, so this is my approach.
