Tony the Wookie
Really, playing hard without any mods just feels wrong... especially if you don't specialize in small guns, becuase you end up haveing to shoot Raiders in the face several times just to kill them, even with a shotgun... my silenced 10mm is pretty much usless on a Super Mutant. It is not as much a challenge as just a hassle to deal with enemies. If I want a challenge I always do it through MMM or with various mods that require eating, sleeping, and delayed stimpaks and stuff. But I also never play with any moded weapons, and I only carry around 100 pounds of stuff on my character. (the default limit on Fallout is way too much, allowing you to carry 5 or 6 weapons at a time makes the game too easy)
shadowmadnezz
I aaaallways play it on Very Hard if im serious about my character, and wanna progresss with em. katashy
I put it on hard. I use MMM with Increased spawns but with no ghoul regeneration. I usually sneak past enemies or take them out one by one when they're seperated or no one else is looking. It get's harder when, because of the way the games made, you're forced to fight a Behemoth or you're forced to fight hundreds of Enclave troops, so I always carry some sort of amazing assault rifle that I use in emergencies. It just depends on your preference. Some like to run around, uber-pwning super muties and taking next to no damage, but some like it to be a challenge so they can test their skills. I prefer the latter.
TinyFae
Well, I just got Fall Out 3 (sorry for being late to the party, but I tried FO 1 and didn't like it due to the stupid time limit), and I must say I am having a blast with it! As it is for now, I'm just playing it in normal mode with addons that only add clothing, hairstyles, better skins/models, etc and keep the gameplay the same. However, I'm thinking that next play through I will end up using the realism mods.
Mikako
Difficulty doesn't exist on the game until they added the UBER monsters like Albino RadScorpions and Super Mutant Overlords. Always play normal, though I wish Normal gave the EXP of Easy. Before Broken Steel the game was actually quite enjoyable, it was just hard enough that a few masters would give me a headache, since I thought it was nice as the difficulty wasn't so bad that you were not forced use uber gear to win because of the new uber monsters, I really wish I can just use my O'Painless vs nearly everything again, but it just doesn't cut it anymore, saddens me. I liked the shell fire weapons like rifles, pistols, shotguns, but vs uber monsters you really need powerful Energy Weapons to defeat easily if not Heavy Weapons like a Laser Gattling. Because running intoa Master and a few Brute and a Overlord Mutant all at once.... that just isn't fair!! lol I find myself anymore running around in Merc Grunt, with the Shady Hat with shaded reading glasses, no real need for armor until sticky suitations almost call for it. Carry a wide range of weapons from O'Painless, to Slappy *combat knife* to the WazerRifle and a normal Plasma Pistol, and my beloved grenades with explosive perk maxed. I actually have pushed away from wearing anything that gives a lot of DR. Merc outfits give enough, get the right perks and you pretty much don't really need armor as some HIGH level monsters do so much damage anyways that armor doesn't really matter as that much, youg et hit you get hurt, avoid getting hit and you win with pretty much the same difficuilty so movement is more important than defense even for me vs Overlords, they can't catch someone after you disable their weapons. *laughs*

Well, unless you want to sit there and put 10-15 shots into their face every time...
evilneko
My first character became a Goddess of the Wastes at a fairly early age on normal difficulty. With my second character, I've quite painfully discovered that that was due in large part to Skullmosher's automatic lasers mod, which put the laser rifle's damage on par with the assault rifle's (ie, in the 40s)--while still leaving it dead-accurate. Granted, this made Enclave encounters (big laser and plasma users) all the more painful. Oh, and I also used to use MMM with Increased Spawns, but had to give it up as it suddenly started causing crashes. If I tried it again I'd probably grab a lower-XP mod. My new character has T3T Weapon Tweaks to deal with, which tweaks conventional weapons rather than lasers, causing almost all weapon-using enemies to get a power boost (except, ironically, the energy-fond Enclave). She's eh... having a hard time of it. But then, when you're only level 8, and have some artificial restrictions placed on you, of course you will. Right now, super muties, which never caused her predecessor any heartache (until Overlords, natch) are putting her into a world of hurt. All this is on normal. I just never bothered to change it. After reading about what hard is like, I don't think I will. I generally prefer a balance between challenge and ease, such that I don't get frustrated -- and I get frustrated fairly easily. Sometimes I enjoy more challenge (Blaze is fun), sometimes, I just prefer not to have my ass handed to me (I played Saints Row 2 entirely on Casual. The gunfighting was easy. A lot of the other stuff, not so much. But it's fun.) or to just flat out blow off steam in/near god mode (DOOM is pretty much the perfect game for that). spn1
Normal with MMM's 2xIncreased Spawns. Generally speaking for all video games: It's a lot more fun to spend two minutes killing a bunch of enemies than spending two minutes killing only one enemy. Anubis Zombie
Welp I was playin on Very Hard. The whole land 5 rounds in the head out of a sniper rifle thing was killing me. So I kicked it down to Hard. I mostly sneak and shot from way past the range of vats, unfortunatly the stock sniper rifle is poo and nowere near what I'd call a sniper rifle so i use alexscorpion's Barrett .50 cal, but the scope is WAY to shaky, it was obviosly made by some1 who is either a very poor marksmen or never actually shot a gun. The other sniper I use is the Marksman's Dream from DantheGeeks Underground hideout, unfortunately it is just that, a dream. Silenced with that much power and range, not out of a pistol round, sorry. I just pretend like its a 30-06 and not a .32, but it still bugs me. Since I've discovered these increase spawn size mods and started using FWE I think I'm gonna lower it to Normal cause it seems to have completely negated the effects of armor. It'slike runnin aroundd naked, and it makes it imposible to actually run around naked, which I usta like to do in vanilla. Neked as a jay bird with a shady hat and some shades snipin away:)
