batesmotel34
While my currently journeyman level alchemist hasn't found the ueber potion yet, I have found that the skill does seem to provde an easy source for ready cash (as well as being able to create useful if not super potions). My Breton witch hunter has decided that the easiest way to drum up money when I run low is to stop in to the nearest inn and have a chat witth the innkeeper. Buy all the "food" items that are available and convert them to Restore Fatigue potions (with no chance of failure unlike in Morrowind). Sell back to innkeeper. While innkeppers usually only have 50 gold for a single purchase, this seems to replenish immediately so you can sell them the potions a couple at a time to rasie a several hundred gold from the "food" ingredients at least, even as a novice or apprentice alchemist. (All merchants seem to have unlimited gold as far as I can tell, just a limit on how much they can spend on one purchase.) Soul gems with trapped souls don't seem to appreciate in value like they did in Morrowind so alchemy may be the best way to raise cash in Oblivion. :D

Stormscape
Gold on merchants works rather differently in Oblivion. That's how much money they'll pay for a single purchase. They can never run out of money.
