I am NEW to Modding but have gotten my taste of it enough that I want to do a Seriously Massive overhaul of my FAV location. Tenpenny Towers. I want to do an elevator with nearly 20 options. all 15 floors and 5 sub levels. Like the mods which use elevators. KORs vault for one example. I want to make the 4 penhouse suites two floors with private stairs. Like they should be according to if you look at the building. Those would be townhome styled two level with the bedrooms upstairs. That leaves 2 floors ABOVE the penhouses. Just looking at the tower and knowing HOW real life works, the lower one right above the penhouses, has a few square windows, those should be office spaces. Then you have the 4 round rooms at the very top? Those would have been like lawyers offices or the such. VERY posh. Very classy. even in the end of the world, people still have STUFF to do... taking over the world needs lots of brain power and aesthetics are proven to help. Which is why those who could afford tenpenny towers PAID for those digs. The center common area in between those 4 offices should be a ball room / art room... etc. I mean why should the creitens in the rust bucket have the Declaration? Screw that. Sydney and I are gonna go get it BACK, LOL The 11th floor, right below the penthouse with the double sized windows is the other high hitters who are NOT one of the 4 penthouse elites. Those should be just good double and triple bedrooms. Standard high class hotel/condo living. Still by looking at the building, I'd say that there are only 4 suites on 11 too. 10, 9, 8, 7 and 6th floors are all in the center of the building. Create one floor, clone and repeat for those rooms. Should be 6 rooms here each. 4 corner rooms with 3 bedrooms and 2 center rooms one on each side with only 2 bedrooms. 5 and 4 would be 16 rooms per floor all single room style 8 per side double deep and narrow. Standard types. The 3rd floor would be the mechanicals. Laundry, food service, etc. Not "the usual" that bethesda gave us on the first floor, those are SHOPS... 3rd floor is where they cook and clean and such. Hotel offices, etc. We already know then the 1st and 2nd are the open balcony and shops. But we'd need to redo them to the correct SIZEs for the realistic layout. Also, the front of the hotel has these kewl "rooms" that jut out but that vanish when you are inside. I think thats lame. Obviously the restaurants would be there at the front of the hotel. So that needs to be done and added as well. Like I said, a total make over. Now we come to the basement. Uber rich would have had their own vault. Duh ! So, thats what we give them. a MASSIVE vault that makes the brothers of steel in their citadel feel envy. Troop quarters, bunks, weapons etc. Every kewl vault idea and mod all rolled into one. With tunnels leading all around the tower, out to the warrington staiton, etc. While this is just the beginning, because once you build it, they will come.... good people from all over and bad people wanting to stop you... so QUESTS and NPCs and followers galore !! Think DLC epic. Not 30 minute mini quests.... Strategically, the tower is ideally placed. You can see enemies aka Enclave etc coming from miles away. Mount a few telsa cannons on the roof.... and you are ready to lead civilization from there. Soooo.... THAT is my plan. Like I said, I am very new to moddling and would have this done sometime in 2012.... UNLESS... there are folks ALSO interested in sharing this and lending a hand building it. Also, I know NADA on textures and those boards on the back of the tower need to GO !! So, reply here, PM me or send email to rachelfth at A O L. And lets see what happens. Meantime, I am gonna just start and see what I can learn and crash at the same time. PS: For anyone reading this and wanting to bah humbug, please just close it and don't waste your time because even if I do it alone and it takes 2 years... My advice would be to first open up the GECK and mess around with the possibilities of what can be done with the Tennpenny Tower peices in order to make your ideal layout. You just want to know what kind of peices you are limited to before you start planning specifics. Then just draw out a quick layout of each floor, and start building it in the GECK. Once you get a good portion of the thing done with the default GECK peices and textures, it will be much more likely that someone will help you out with re-texturing different things or makeing new stuff you want. If this starts looking cool, I could even offer a hand modeling or texturing myself, but that is only if time permits, I can't make any promises though. But anyways, like you said "if you build it, they will come" and that works the same way for your mod, once you have something built, even if it isn't completly how you want it, people will be a lot more likely to come to help you out. But anyways, good luck If you havn't used the GECK before, this is what you will want to look at It tells you how to make a Vault, but the Tennpenny Tower peices work just the same. I am working on the left right now... same as the right... PLUS I need to add a staircase to the second floor and then make THOSE two story cathedral ceilings because of the roofs outside and how it looks. Not sure WHAT I will fill it with yet. This is just the basic pre plan work and proof of concept. I won't actually even keep this mod once I have a good floor plan and the windows problem worked out. The views are both GECK and from inside the hotel and from above god view. The inside view, I removed those red rope barricades and two plants. Added an exit, built the walls, and nothin else is done yet. No Nav. SpeedyB64 Posted December 26, 2009 Share Posted December 26, 2009 This sounds like a good idea. :thumbsup: As a major project leader I can tell you that the most important thing is to plan things in stages and don't try to bite off too much at once.First I would focus on getting the interior roughed out then decorate the parts you can.Then I would try to get someone who can do some 3d modeling and make the unique parts you will need (if you can't find one keep working on the other parts and use a temporary substitute)Then focus on the NPCsThen once you have the tower finished I would focus on the bunker (If you get that far I can help you out with an all new bunker tileset)Then I would focus on quests Anyway this is all just a suggestion, you can do it however works best for you. :biggrin: PS. Zephyr2011 Posted December 29, 2009 Share Posted December 29, 2009 I'd love to help with this project, I've always thought "wtf? only four floors and a basement? what is this?" about Tenpenny Tower. I'd be lying if I said I had any sort of experience with modeling and though i've dabbled a wee bit in texturing I'm definitely no professional at that but I'm good with ideas and the GECK (my scripting could use some work) and I'd love to help you out if you could send me a base of what I'd need to work on. (like a floor of the tower then I could add npcs, navs, and clutter it up). Also, I've thought that all the generic "tenpenny resident"s were very boring so if you'd like I'll delte them all and replace them with named npcs with atleast some sort of backstory I can't do voice acting thouhg, no mic : / Let me know if you'd like my help, I dont pretend that I can offer a lot but the least i can do is lighten your workload a little. There should be a small bunker, of course, but only big enough to accommodate the people at the tower instead of some fullsize vault-tech wonder.Tenpenny Tower, before the war, was not a big office building full of lawyers, executroids, and other scumbags. It was a resort. The surrounding area was a plush resort & spa with golf courses and the like, where the well to do would go on vacation to get away from it all. It's a Grand Hotel, not an office park.When modding it, bear that in mind. Some of the stuff you mentioned simply makes no sense, even though it is pretty cool.
