ptbptb
I notice that a few uploaders have disabled tagging. I can see why people would want to turn off endorsements or comments, but why tags?
buddah
Obviously the uploader set his own tags and does not what them changed, As with most things this can be disabled by the uploader. Buddah
jaosals42
I notice that a few uploaders have disabled tagging. I can see why people would want to turn off endorsements or comments, but why tags? Why not turn them off? They have their own reasons for doing things like this. It's their file and they're allowed to do whatever they wish with it that doesn't harm others. I may wonder the same thing myself sometimes, but it's still their stuff. Let them do with it as they please.
ptbptb
Obviously the uploader set his own tags and does not what them changed Actually that's not obvious. I had no idea that any tags had been set, it's not at all clear. If they have been set then I suggest changing the text to "The uploader of this file has turned off user-defined tagging on this file". I also think that any tags set should be shown (just don't show the empty check-boxes).
buddah
Only the uploader or a member of the staff can set tagging off. I have not turned any off, so if they are turned off the uploader decided that he did not want tags set. Since the file admin area is where I hide, I can assure you that no one other than the uploader has turned this function off. There are roughly 30,000 files on this family of sites, we don't have the time to check something like tagging files. We also don't change the uploader settings without a valid reason, rule violations, adult content, copyright infringement, permissions issues and the like. What isn't at all obvious is that the uploader has set any tags. It also isn't clear what tags (if any) the uploader has set.
LHammonds
I was under the impression that if Search Tags are disabled, the mod will not be visible in the tag search...thus limiting the mods visibility. I am not sure why anyone would want to disable the tag functionality on their mod but Dark0ne has given them the option to do so. EDIT: Not sure what buddah meant by "obvious" either. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. LHammonds
buddah
I meant it was obvious the uploader had disabled them, not his reasons for doing so. My crystal ball is in the shop for recalibration....so I am unable to consult it for an answer and my magic 8 ball has limited responses. With no tags set the file will not show in the tag search, but if the uploader set tags and disables the feature for users to tag the file it will still show up in the tag search for the appropriate [set] tags. ptbptb
OK, I'm going to make one last effort to clear up the miscommunication in this thread. 1. I did not realise that an uploader who has disabled tagging could also have set tags on the file himself. Hence my initial post.2. I do not consider that the message displayed when you click on the 'tags' tab is clear in its meaning (see 1.).3. I think having the tags tab display set tags even if downloaders are unable to change them is a good idea.
buddah
1. OK, we agree on this one....sorted it out. This I have checked and it will come up on the tag search even if member tagging is not allowed, provided the uploader or an staff member has set the appropriate tags. 2. "The uploader of this file has turned tagging off on this file", means this option has been disabled and is not available for this file. The same as disabling comments/endorsements/user images and like options, they are the uploaders choice. 3. This is a good idea, one whose point I may have missed. This would require some coding to accomplish.....so that is in Dark0ne's domain, no one but Dark0ne does the site's coding [everything here is very site specific and all custom coded]. So that decision is his.
