OreoMini121
Hello, I've been having a problem with the BSA archives that Fallout 3 uses. My goal is to install the few mods that I have. I'm using a version of Fallout 3 which I bought back when the game was released. I used the "FO3Archive" tool to unpack the .bsa files, then I copied the mod files into the unpacked .bsa files, and recompiled them. Then I renamed the old files ex."Fallout - Textures.bsa.old" and put the newly compiled ones into the "<Install Dir>\Data\" folder with the same name as the old files. 3/4 of the mods seemed to work, although I didn't look too far into it. The mod that didn't work is a texture mod called "NeilMc Terrain Pack". My main question is about the need of the .bsa files. Reading through most of the tutorials I could find, such as: "http://www.fallout3nexus.com/articles/article.php?id=43" they wouldn't even mention the .bsa files. I was wondering if in newer versions of the game, like the GOTY edition, that the .bsa archives were just removed in favor or normal file/folders. Installing mods for Oblivion was the same process as described in the tutorial I linked above, but unpacking and repacking the .bsa archives just to install a mod is a grand pain. :wallbash: Any help is appreciated. Sorry for dragging this out and sorry for bothering your forums with my problems, thanks!

I assume the reason that the .bsa aren't really mentioned is that the original .bsa files generally aren't reccommended to be messed with. IMO if you need to make bsa files I'd make them per mod I haven't installed from my Fallout 3 Goty disc 1 yet but I don't see why beth would stop using the format since it tends to make modding easier for the average user (people can add files to the data folder without needing them to be in .bsa files) & keeping the base .bsa files vanilla can save some headache. OreoMini121
Alright, thanks! I guess I'll try recompiling another .bsa with my textures. Thanks for the reply. This is the first I've really posted on the Nexus forums, but I joined a while ago to get Oblivion mods. This is by far my favorite site for mods. Thanks for answering my question.
