Can't open/pick up certain containers/items

Dear Nexus community members,

I have a problem with picking up items and opening certain containers. For example in the end of Pinewood dungeon there is a pile of ores, gold and some emeralds etc. I was able to take everything except few Septims, some ore and one ruby. My crosshair showed the items but activating it didn't do anything. But much bigger problem is with "stuck" containers. I was storing soulgems in wardrobe and suddenly I was not able to interact with it. I just heard click noise and the containers didn't open. This happened after few hours of gameplay. And now the same thing happened to wardrobe where I have my food. 30 hours later.

I have a decent amount of mods installed so I tried deactivating animation related mods but it did not help. Player.tia didn't fix this neither. So, any ideas?

 

I use Breezehome Fully Upgradable and I have my mods sorted using BOSS.

 

And one more thing, probably not related to this. Once I entered Drunken Huntsman but I appeared in Breezehome. And once I lockpicked cage door but I was teleported to the beginning of the same dungeon.

If you have not already taken care of all the messages in your BOSS log (TES5Edit cleaning, properly placing unrecognized mods, any other messages you see such as obsolete mods, mods needing patches,e tc) do all that first.

That could solve your problem.

 

If the problem persists after doing that:

Please post your BOSS log text file, enclosed in spoiler tags.

To get the text file version, open up the BOSS GUI and select to have the log rendered in txt vs. html.

You will find the spoiler tags in the pull-down menu of the third icon from the left on the top toolbar.

 

If you have removed any mods from your current game, please list them. Also list any supporting programs you are using for Skyrim (like skse, texture optimizzers, etc and the version)

This sounds like a -very very- old skyrim bug.
I remember having the same issue way back when I first played Skyrim and it was still pretty new.

Do you have all of the official and unofficial patches and bugfixes (mods) installed?
Because I have this time around and I haven't encountered this specific bug (yet).

Georgiegril - Ok, I will try everything you recommended and I will see what will happen, thanks. ;)

 

Ayporos - Yes, I have all updates and patches. I used many STEP recommendations and Zemalf's blog for advices. And it is really odd, I know. If the containers would not work since the beginning I would understand something is wrong, but my problem is weird. The same with the gold. Same item, same ID, but some are pickupable, some not...

hm that -is- odd indeed.
I must admit I cannot for the life of me remember what solved the problem way back when I also encountered it (mind you this was also on a completely different computer) and I also cannot remember if I was even running mods back then... I have pretty selective/random long-term memory (my short-term memory is absurdly accurate tho)

I thought about it some more and it seems to me that -something- (I assume a mod) is messing up your memory/refID's. The teleporting and weird item/container behaviour can only be explained as such (assuming they're related, which I'd say is likely).

georgiegril's advice is solid.
Although I haven't actually done any TES5Edit cleaning myself, I just solved mod problems by patching mods BOSS marks for patching, disabling plausible offending mods one by one until the offender is found, moving it around in load order and see if that fixes it or, failing all that, disabling/deleting it..

Georgiegril - So I edited all dirty edits (except where they were made on purpose, like Convenient Horses), I made sure my unrecognized mods are properly placed, but SkyFalls and few others does not require any particular place. Nothing helped. And after reading Ayporos's edit I tried to remove SSME but it did not help neither.

 

I use Skyrim Startup Memory Editor-50305-1-8-0-0, Skse_1_06_16 and my Skyrim version is 1.9.32.0.8

 

And I did not removed any mods. I was just collecting mods I liked and when I felt I am ready to play I started new game.

 

But I still can't understand why the containers stopped suddenly working. I even tried to remove mods related to the items stored inside affected containers (Acquisitive Soul Gems). But I think more and more containers will become stuck.

 

Here is the log. Mods with Bash Tag were already "Wrye Bash-ed". And the only inactive mods are which Wrye Bash disabled.

Could you check something for me?
Disable dead body collision mod and see if that helps. From looking at your mod list that's the first one that pops out to me as a potential offender as it messes with the physics of objects.
(I myself disabled it because it caused some very unwanted immersion breaking behaviour as seeing ragdolls flying around in everywhich direction when you're walking through a room you just cleared apparently kicking/bumping them away kinda diminishes the whole experience. I know it's supposed to be an immersion mod but imo it does more harm than good)
