andybill
So I got DA for xmas, but am away from my PC until next week. In the mean time I have been ravishing the web for all things I can read up on DA. I am also looking at mods to add into the game before I even play it. Could some people recommend some general mods for someone on their first play through? I would like some things that do not alter the vanilla version of the game too much, but just make it better in little ways here and there. For example, I plan to add in the mod that gets rid of the DLC advertisements in game. Any help would be great, thanks!

eezergoode
I personally never mod a game on my first play through. Really, until you play it, how do you even know what needs changed? I can see the 'remove DLC advert' mod, i guess, but the guy didn't really bother me that much. I just ignored him. It's not like he follows you around pestering you, he just stands in camp with a quest marker over his head.

Oh God I hope no one from EA reads these forums otherwise the next DLC salesman will be a mandatory companion who suggests that we buy such and such for x amounts of points. on topic: two mods that you may want to pick up is the camp storage chest, and the bag of holding. chocolate456
There is a mod out there that tells you which gift goes to which parting memeber in the gifts description. It has no real impact on gameplay and will make your life a little easier.
egaSbooN
*edited on 1/26/10* i would suggest farhang's mod pack at *(link removed)* it has all sorts of things, and im not sure, but i dont think any of em are interlinked, so you can simply not install any parts you may not want for example, theres a nude mod in there, so if you dont want it dont add the natural bodies file when your using the dazip installer also had a small issue w/ the winter forge mod in the pack, (i fixed by finding and installing it from WF's creator) also, look at Bidelles Makeup Studio, (im waiting for next update) you need to find more hairstyles, CC tints, and pinapletree's vibrant mods. more character creation content is always good most mods are only retextures/recolour (change object look) and dont have much affect on the gameso if you find any weapon/armour mods it only changes a few things, (though some can suck bad if the creator was dumb enough to use a item used by half the npcs in the game)i havent used any for "this" game, so i cant speak of any such issues, as i realize just now that this is an old thread, i hope you, and/or any new comers can find this usefullseeing that this should be a frequently asked question ***edit, i was unaware farhang didnt get permission, so i will remove the link. how ever it is a good list, and id still recomend lookingthrough it and downloading wanted files seperatly (as ones in pack are out dated, and it is a discredit to the makers of the files to use the pack) i have went through and replaced mine already
Dracomies
i would suggest farhang's mod pack at http://forum.xcpus.com/pc-gaming/21011-m-r...ods-tweaks.html it has all sorts of things, and im not sure, but i dont think any of em are interlinked, so you can simply not install any parts you may not want for example, theres a nude mod in there, so if you dont want it dont add the natural bodies file when your using the dazip installer also had a small issue w/ the winter forge mod in the pack, (i fixed by finding and installing it from WF's creator) also, look at Bidelles Makeup Studio, (im waiting for next update) but along w/ farhang's pack, you only need to find the more hairstyles mod more character creation content is always good most mods are only retextures/recolour (change object look) and dont have much affect on the gameso if you find any weapon/armour mods it only changes a few things, (though some can suck bad if the creator was dumb enough to use a item used by half the npcs in the game)i havent used any for "this" game, so i cant speak of any such issues, as i realize just now that this is an old thread, i hope you, and/or any new comers can find this usefullseeing that this should be a frequently asked question Regarding the Farhang pack, I wouldn't recommend it for a couple of reasons. First of all, those are a ton of mods that he did not get permission for. It's very, very disrespectful to the modder who put in the time to make mods for the community. I guarantee you that all of the modders on that list would be upset if they knew about Farhang's pack. Second of all, you're better off getting the files INDIVIDUALLY rather than from the pack, since most authors updated their mods to address issues and make improvements. That way you get the most up-to-date versions of the mod and you can customize it the way you want it.
Dracomies
The only mods I recommend for the first time are these: 1. Respec mod. A must! 2. No helmet mod. It doesn't break immersion. It just puts the helmet on when you fight. And takes them off when you don't. Because the helmets don't look very aesthetically pleasing. 3. JB HD textures. High definition textures. Highly recommended. 4. Inventory to max of 125. 125 is the amount that you are supposed to have in the Vanilla game. Anything above that sort of breaks the challenge of the game. Part of the fun is figuring out what you're going to keep and take out. Because it makes you think about needs and wants and you have to make decisions..just like in life. For example, "Do I keep this awesome sword that I'm not strong enough to use again", or should I keep this "awesome armor" or should I keep these scales to make better armor, or should I keep this amulet to sell and get hoards of gold? Versus downloading a mod that gives you infinity space==> Oh I have infinity space. Let's take em all! So that I can later complain how easy Dragon Age is because I "changed" the game. :P 5. I would recommend this mod here. http://social.bioware.com/project/574/ It gets annoying to see blood on your face all day. This fixes the problem. 1Monk
I'd recommend some mods that make minor tweaks without changing it, the original game is excellent. Advanced Tactics is great, it makes the tactics better without changing how they work.Endgame Dialogue Fixes, bug fixes is always good.White teeth... yellow teeth is bad for you.
